We are talking about WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP Motocross, not a local hick series where any hillbilly fast guy can rock up and lay carnage to the pros with a stupid mistake then fuckoff for the rest of the rounds. Seen it before. What they propose isnt disimilar to how it was run in the 70's.

The reasons some 'Euro's' want to ride the States is challenge and a crack at the huge US SX market..maybe become a US citizen in the process..and taste a bit of glamour. I dont see any Belgians wanting to race the US circuit full time, cant remember any who have ever.

So that narrows it down to French, Kiwi's, Aussies, South Africans and Pommies making the big change. Thats one Euro country out of 5, hardly a big deal really.
Hmmm somebody is digging the cornholing the euro riders are getting, but then again, I doubt you could have your head up your azz any further.

The riders who do have the financial backing to race GPs are far less likely to jump ship and go anywhere else and the ones being pushed out because they don't have the funds are not going to have the backing to go anywhere else.

When was the last time a "hillbilly fast guy" screwed up a top guy's season?

quote -- 'unless you have a shit load of money behind you youthstream aint interested in you, so fuckem!!'

I guess kids like Shaun Simpson, Jason Dougan, Ray Rowson and Bryan Mackenzie (just to name some British kids) all must be dirty rich huh, Wink

Seriously tho, Im with you on the fee, It only works if theres enough wealthy teams to pay the fee but how can you charge a fee if you cant fill the gate. Its the same fee if your budgets 1,000,000 as it is if your budgets 200,000 it doesnt quite work does it.

As for making it more exclusive well I get that, it is a world title after all, not an amateur free for all. There must be loads of drivers in F3 that are as fast as some of the F1 drivers but thats the nature of a fixed entry, it helps the teams in that it gives the teams more chance of securing sponsors when theyre guaranteed a start. Those selected drivers earn a little more but its obviously harder to break into as a driver.

I agree with a majority that this sounds a bit bad? But I don't really have the magic ball to see how this turns out...

I will still continue ride and watch despite what these people come up with...

The world championship is taking steps to make the series more professional, just like the US started to do a few years ago. What YS is doing is consistent with any other bigtime professional sport.

You don't see NFL teams show up to play 2 days early to hold tryouts so locals can get a chance to get hammered with the pros. Why has SXMX had to rely on such a half-pro/half amateur system?

The debate then on the US side was just the same-professionalism vs access.

SX was signing up sometimes 3-4 times the riders it needed for a night show. Local stars were getting hurt, and some badly, one died. If SX could get away with it, it would do the same thing YS is doing. When news of this got out, the US fans and cranky-outdated mags whined as if they had their candy taken away.

The economics of the GPs are not the same as SXMX in the states. They spend a lot more on travel, and move a lot more equipment. (just look at the 2-story pit lane, it goes to every GP, and that's not a trivial task.) It's logical that if they are going to all that trouble, that they reduce the number to the reliable teams that are going to make their commitments to make it to these events and not flake out halfway through. You would do the same thing if it were your deal.

They still left the door open for 4 more riders above the 26, so local federations can get in the heroes the host nation wants to see, or have big names race by invitation.

Go to a mall and visit a sports store. All the big sports have a set number of teams and you know who they are.

sheesh people!

Good luck my ass.

Budds MXoN was the biggest and baddest MX race in US history, and it had 3 US riders. YS made the US side look like amateurs on its first race.

It's no wonder the US side tries so hard to sabotage everything YS wants to do! They can't handle a better example. Total cowards.

I went to a sx and there was one guy riding around on a Kawasaki, A2 i think. he roled almost everything, I thought he was gonna die, I can understand why the nats would have a free for all, they can make a couple hundred dollars off each privateer skilled or hapless, it al goes towards running the show, but sx should definateley be for the best of the best only its way to dangerouse

actually they are taking steps so that a new competitor series grows up out of nothing, to accomodate those riders with nowhere to ride!

Budds Creek was an American race hosted on American soil by an American promoter. The MXdN race carried heritage and was gone for 20 years. Thats what made that event.
Youthstream just rode the coat tails and laughed all the way to the bank.

Of course the cowards pulled the scheduled USGP last year and are to scared to comit to one this year. Who is scared?

To say that Youthstream would have done a better job than what we've gotten this summer so far is quite a statement.

Quiet a ficticious statement too. I dont see that said anywhere in this thread...perhaps you are distorting what was actually said.. 'They can't handle a better example'. Thats how the smear works isnt it, twist it a little to make it sound like a fact.

That would be called national series...when they (riders) are good enough and put a package together, they can graduate up to the World Championships. Works in every other sport around.

You are the one making the implacation, thats whats obvious, its no surprise you always do it. Comparing GP's to the US Nationals is like oranges and mandarins. Both are great championships, I dont believe YS should run the US series.

Yes, it was evident after my use of the word "sabotage" . Oh wait.

As I recall, that's a road you mapped, constructed and paved. Hence your little time out.

The above whiners have enough bias already. No need to add to it.

I saw the AMA considering the same things a few years ago. SX did cut back, but it also had some empty gates for heat races too...

Are you guys saying that is not a fact?

Name the other pro team sports that open the door for locals to try out and be heroes for a weekend.....

yep I agree alot of what YS have done is really good but paying for rides and only 30 on the gate is stupid I also dont like the under 23 rule there will not be enough rides in MX1 for the guys when they get moved out.

It's possible this is temporary until the global economy recovers.

Two years from now, if things pick back up, it could go back to 40. Right now it's a good idea to focus on strong teams that are securely funded and will make the whole series.

I wish I could agree with you, but I have the feeling it's not gonna happen. The european economy is different from the american. There are currently two big name sponsors on board: Red Bull and Teka. But who knows Teka?
Most teams get supported by sponsors of their home country and that's not enough for the costs. A Californian says he's an American, but a French says he's french, not european. Know what I mean? As long as we don't have a united european economy, people don't care about the foreign country teams sponsor products.

If mx were a team sport points would be given to the team and not the individual racer. The only time it's a team event is the MXdN.

Back on topic... I'm not against the under 23 rule. If you think about it, they can race the gp's at age 16... that gives them 6 - 7 years in the mx2 class. I think that's plenty of time.

Maybe thats not a bad idea, like NASCAR. The team gets points and not the driver. Makes getting a replacement easier.

Riders would hate it though.
