Hey guys went for a ride yesterday on my kx125 and towards the end the bike wound to go into full powerband and almost sounded like it was detonating when I’d try go into full powerband, it went into mid powerband fine and lower rpm but not full power, I’ve recently rebuilt the bike has about 4 hours on it and a bunch of parts lectron exhaust ect, the bike is mint and I looked over all the power valves, cylinder is mint piston is new, had a new coil and Ignition. Before hand the bike was running great although it did sometimes sound like it was detonating a bit when I was in full powerband, bike still has great compression and starts and runs perfectly just doesn’t go into full powerband, I’m thinking something in The power valves is loose or broken as I’ve had the power valve screw come loose before and was a similar situation just didn’t go into powerband at all which is why I’m thinking it could post robot be something else this time as it still goes into mid powerband. I’ve yet to start looking into it but will be today or tomorrow, And tips ? Thanks

Sounds like a power valve issue to me. Possible a fuel issue ? Check that fuel is flowing well from petcock. Pull it out and clean it, if it seems to have a weak flow. Do you have an in-line Fuel filter ?

Yeah I’m thinking it’s a power valve too, nah only fuel filter is in the fuel tank

Sounds like possible lean jetting up on top, or an air leak. Was the crankcase pressure tested after the rebuild? This is 100% critical.

Unsure old owner had the bottom end done. I noticed the carb wasn’t fully connect to the air boot so put it in and it doesn’t do it as bad but still makes the noise sometimes, thinking the carb is possibly missing abit, I don’t think it’s powevalves anymore as powerband is still there but makes the noise still abit how ever I’m able to go into full powerband most the time now. Could It be something to do with the lectron carb? Or was thinking possible weak spark, even thought I just put in a new coil and spark plug

Had a problem similar on a 2003 kx 125, after stripping it all down numerous times it turned out to be a wire rubbing on the frame and causing what seemed like the engine pre detonating.

All good ideas, jetting, crank seals, and power valves cause these exact symptoms. I had an issue where the stator gap setting was too close. It took me several weeks to figure out after replacing crank seals and many needle and main jett changes. I'll bet you a beer if you remove the ignition cover and move the stator pickup farther away, the problem is fixed. There is the Kawasaki Tech Tip that I will look for.
