Hey All,
Long-time motocross rider that's transitioning into riding more offroad. Sprint Enduro's have started to catch on in Michigan and I am thinking about trying one. Seems like the best of both worlds. I've read most of the rules for the races on our local organization's website, but looking to see if there is any advice or anything I should be aware of before showing up to one of these events? Already installed some bark busters on my YZ450 to keep my hands safe from trees. Looking for comments from people who have actually raced in these events.

Conditions vary greatly on venue!
For example: Avg moving speed was vastly different at CMB compared to Battle Creek. In my class (40+ Cool , it was 8mph avg vs 25mph avg! CMB does not have a MX track fyi so that was a major difference.

Pit environments are different compared to MX. More laid back.
I found there was a little less organized as far as communicating info about the program, event, scheduling, etc.
Hours rack up fast on the bike! Lol..

Have fun!

Use a camelbak.
Also, a full chest pro is a smart move for tree protection.

Handguards will help out a lot. Practice a lot of short sprints at home. Stay active between test if you are back at the pits.

I did the Muskegon sprint enduro and really enjoyed the format. From an offroad standpoint although every run counts toward your total time, it feels like your day isn't over compared to a cross country/ harescramble where its just your 1 1/2hr 2hr and thats it. And from a Mx standpoint, you're back on the track quicker then in moto where if you raced one class it might be 5hrs before your next moto. Pro's drop first followed by A riders. Then its kinda free game after that they don't really try to separate b's and c's. When you get done its generally 10-20 min before you need to get back up to the starting area.

The brand CamelBak pays big money to shut down our trails.

This. F@&# Camelback. You might as well be giving money to the Sierra Club and Gavin Newsom.

Who would ride moto and downvote this post?

It's bots.

I've never received a legitimate down vote. Til they're verified, you can't convince me otherwise Smile

They are a blast. Try to get used to going from resting to going as fast as you can. And if you have an e bike try and pre ride the course or at the very least try and go check out any jumps or anything that you might be worried about.

Other than that they are a blast. And if you don’t have woods suspension, it’s worth looking into, these tracks get super rough.

Make a game plan for the loops. What I do is start with what I think will be the tightest section, do all those laps first before it gets to beat up. Then do the grass track laps as it will have decent ruts by now to help in all the corners. Then end on a moto track section as the moto tracks never seem to get to rough in a sprint enduro with only 1 bike being sent at a time. This is just my experience, adjust your plan based on what your sections look like.

Sound advice. The woods sections get rough and that big ol yz is gonna feel like it weighs 300 lbs before it’s all over.

I've only raced one but my 3 biggest takeaways:

1. It's harder that a MX or Hare Scramble to get in "race mode" since you start seperate. Don't get lazy.

2. You will have downtime, don't be afraid to make adjustments and I made a point to drink half a bottle of water between tests.

3. Sprint but don't rush, I made way too many mistakes the first few tests trying to force more speed than the track allowed.

Have fun and good luck, I'd definitely do one again if there were any close by!

Thanks all of you guys! The next race is at the end of October so I've got some time. Really excited to race in one of these. Seems like a great style of racing and atmosphere. I'll report back for sure!

I have raced a few of the sprint enduros and they are an absolute blast. other than bark busters the only advice i have is to walk the course the day before and it will help a lot on your first couple of test. Have fun.

They are fun. Plenty of seat time, but with more of a high intensity style of racing similar to moto. Also watch of for those ribbons lol. Really easy way to lose your brakes by sucking one up and having it melting on your pads.
