Last year I ended up blacking out the night before and going to bed at 3:30 AM, waking up at 7 and racing 4.5 hours. Ended up 1 spot off the podium in open expert class and continued to celebrate and blackout again saturday night. So my advice is have fun with the event! The race itself kinda sucks but everyone has to do it, it's the whole weekend atmosphere that makes it a great event.
One day I hope to grow up and be a baller like you!

A couple people have told me to take it easy on all the pavement sections... knobbys don’t brake or turn quickly on pavementWoohoo Laughing Woohoo
Pavement also chunks knobbies like crazy on a 450. I found out the hard way with a brand new tire testing my RMZ450 one day!

Good luck mane, it's a hell of a time. I'm not doing it this year but have fun. I hate the race itself but goddamn do I love the after-party lol

I was just up there last weekend for work in Carson City and took the scenic route back to the airport up and over the mountains through VC. I used to live in south Reno and have always wanted to do the race but never made it unfortunately... have fun!

How was the weather and dirt conditions up there? I saw about 3 weeks ago there was still decent snow cover on the ground in VC. Hoping for nice conditions and little dust!

It wasn’t bad last week. There was your usual patches of snow last week and still some moisture in the ground from what I could see from the car. It was a rental and I was concentrating on the curves more as I beat on it up and down the mountain! Wink

It was chilly still in the morning but was high 50s during the day. There was still some weather coming in so the sun wasn’t out and I’m sure that affected the temperature.

Ya super lucky and I sent it in a day late cuz I forgot... ??? last year I was in row 29.. best advice I can give ya is just pick your lines and don’t get backed up in the up/down hills and sutro canyon.. they get bottle necked horrible and you can get off the main line and make 20-25 bike passes doing this... also be careful on the pavement!! You feel like you should wfo but people got wrecked on the corners??? blowing corners ending up off the road... BUT with all that and a little more chaos sprinkled on top... it was one of the funnest weekends.. just enjoy yourself and I have all red gear and will be on a husky #195 come say hi!!

Hell yeah!! Can't wait. I sent you a DM but i think the messages on here are all messed up. Will you be camping in the pits? Look for a white Ram 2500 with a beige/tan Rockwood travel trailer. KTM #325, Husky and a Honda pitted underneath. Come by for a cold beer and some BSing after the race!

Hey, hope its OK to rejuvenate this post! I have not raced this race in 25 years and I am going back this year! Any advice from anyone that has done it recently? I will be racing Super Senior B, on a YZ250FX... any gearing advice?

ha, lets go! I need to figure out a bunch more details. I live in New York, so I need to find a place around here to ride some fast, wide open stuff. Where I live is all tight and rocky!

Hard terrain tires are the go to?

Which camp is closest to the pits?

Im trying to do some camp research too. Haven't figured out anything yet.

What about gearing? Any help with gearing for a YZ250FX? I am coming from the east coast, so we run much different gearing over here... any help would be epic! thanks!

I run the my normal MOTO gearing!! It’s not WFO race.. don t get me wrong 6mile canyon is wide open but the rest is just ripping along at a fast pace… there is camping right next to the pits but it fills up really quick.. and honestly any camping in town is close to anything in town… walking distance to bars and pits..

Thanks, for the info! I wish we could get a camping site pre-booked. Any idea what day they start filling up? Maybe need to get there Wednesday or Thursday?
