Who has had this happen....

You order a part from a vendor, told by the saleman that the part carries a lifetime warranty, if it breaks it will be replaced, only to have the part break and they not stand behind it?

I had this happen recently. I ordered a sprocket from sidewinder, had it less then 2 months, maybe only 8 races on it to have it break. I called the company only to be told that all they could do for me was to sell me a new one. I couldnt believe it.

If this has happened to, please advise how you handled it and the out come.

foreign objects, chain derailment, improper installation or a bad luck
catastrophic mishap (that sometime happens). You may be requested to

YHou basically covered their asses 100% so of course they can guarantee their product, it's next to impossible to prove a sprocket was faulty based on those conditions....it's a bs move on sidewinders part if in fact the sprocket was defective

if you own a company and sell your product to the general public you have to protect yourself otherwise everytime something breaks it will somehow be your fault. 90% of warranties are LIMITED warranties and salesmen never point out that they are limited to pretty much everything.

Post your boobie pics, email the vendor a link to this thread, and he'll see how famous you are, sending you your free sprocket immediately (including his cell phone number and what days his wife will be out of town).

One of the teeth broke on the sprocket. Everything is checked before & after each moto so this would not happen.

Back in 1992 I was getting a vintage bike together for an upcoming race. Getting down to the wire , finally got it up and running and figured the gearing was pretty far off. Called Sidewinder, gave them all the info and ordered up a chain and front and rear sprockets on a Monday. Payed for COD (as they did not accept credit cards then)and UPS overnight or 2nd day ( can't remember for sure) so it would be here by the weekend. No problem I was assured. Sure enough, on Thursday UPS shows up , collects my money and heads out. I open the box to find a chain, countershaft sprocket and an invoice stating back ordered on the rear sprocket. I pitched a fit and after they basically started laughing about it ,gave a few people a good cussing over the phone. Took another three weeks for the sprocket to show up and zero reimbursement for the express shipping fees. Never again have I purchased anything else from them. Besides their special "Sidewinder" chain was just a Regina gold.

oh yeh wiseco and p.c. screwd me once
PROX and CT racing and RPM helped me out
this was a while back and still use them and
piss on the other 2 the are not worthy of my
hard earned dollar.

AFAM is the best quality you can get in chain and sprockets. I wanted to try the RK Vortex but it was on permanent BO.

The last few Renthal's I've had lasted much, much longer than that. NO problems with them at all.

I had Afam's on my 01 YZ250F and my son's 01 RM125. Neither of them held up very well, short life span. Have had Renthals on quite a few bikes and they seem to do very well. For the vintage bikes, not many choices out there. Sprocket Specialties will make them for nearly everything though and laugh if you may but they have held up as well as anything else I've used. Do they even make sprockets for modern bikes? Can't say that I have ever considered them for anything other than a vintage scoot.

I called them once about getting a spacer shim machined to offset the rear sprocket since supermoto tires are so wide. Basically what I wanted was a thin piece machined with the hole the same diameter as the hub ridge with all the holes in the correct position to space out my rear sprocket by 1/16 to 1/8 inch. If they could have machined in a another ridge and made a sprocket to sit on that ridge like it does on the hub I would have bought the whole package and paid for the special machining necessary.

Do you think the guy on the phone over there could manage to comprehend this rather simple request? After trying to explain it for 15 minutes I lost all faith that they had any idea WTF they were doing and hung up.

The Sidewinder product used to kick ass. Even though they were a wider and heavier chain, I loved the effect that had on a 125. I could honestly tighten my chain only about twice a month. After several years of buying Renthal because of package deal pricing, I thought I'd buy me another set of Sidewinders. Just for old times sake if nothing else. I made up my mind and called to order. After trying for a week to place my order I gave up. I had my mind made up that is what I was going to get and still couldn't get it. I haven't tried ordering them again and I've been running Renthal ever since with virtually every chain on the market, Regina, DID, Subaki ect. The last set I bought I tried the Renthal chain. That was a big mistake. Stick with DID or Regina.
