The infield at horn is a freaking joke there’s not even a whole (big) bike length between the rythyms and every face is trashed by halfway through the day and that’s what ruins it for me.
Yea what Traktor says is true about RD I wish the old track was back. Big, nice flow, big jumps and that whoop section was awesome. Blows away what it is now.

Someone has to say it… The tracks up here in the PNW are trash! I don’t think the track owners/managers know how to build a motocross track these days.. Washougal is good but it’s a national track… Everywhere else isn’t worth the $30-$40 they charge.. Recently, Mtn. View MX ruined their dirt with wood chips wtf.. Won’t be riding there for a couple years at least now… Albany Mx hasn’t done anything in 30 years.. Albany mx is the sketchiest track in Oregon.. If anyone thinks it’s good then you have no idea.. Albany’s jump building is amateur at best, layouts suck, and track prep is weak.

I did hear MTVIEW went wayyyyyy overboard on the wood chips.

Horn is the best track in the state, no cap

Yeah mtn view is garbage now, large wood chips, 6”-12” deep on top of their typical hard pack. Doesn’t appear that they are trying to disc or till it in at all.

Ah shit. I’d hoped by now they have ripped and tilled in it. I don’t want to ride on wood chips. Maybe we are out for Saturday there. And Albany is racing trucks, and Washougal some mud race this weekend that leaves riverdale which sucks. Depressing.

Horns cool if you like to ride on a track built for 65s for 45 mins a day with kickers on almost every single jump face
There are a ton of killer days at Horn where they don't even split the practices up. I lived in Ellensburg for a few years and it seemed like Horn was only packed a couple days a year when all of the westsiders would come out at once.

The sand track is pretty fun if its wet.

I really like that track. The promoter is a former pro racer and knows how to build a track. Keep in mind it is new this year so they still have some little things to work out.

I have not but I have friends who have went and enjoyed it.

I do know that it is a passion project for EC as much as it is to make a living, the dude loves moto and I think if he can keep it going, this track is going to be a good place to go for years to come.

That's depressing about Mtn View. I have always traveled down from Seattle several times a year because it was worth the drive. I wonder if they know it's bad and are trying to fix it or still feel it was a good plan? It sounds like Bark Lommel at Grays. It's not too bad for a few fun rough laps but nothing like how incredible Mtn View was.

The races at Albany are not trucks, it’s moto. Sprint enduro Saturday and gp Sunday. Mx track plus 70 acres of grass track. Should be really good, everything will suppsively be watered.

The chips at mtn view are nothing like grays, grays is more of a mulch, mtn view is giant chips.

We are gonna give MV a try on Saturday. It looks too deep with chips still from the vids. They really need to rip it super deep and till that stuff in. Since we are racing Grays Harbor next weekend seems like should be good practice. Plus, the boy will get this tomorrow for his birthday and he's gonna want to try it out. Wink

I'll let you know how it was.

Yeah we were there that weekend too. I didn't ride due to injury. The boy thought it was ok but a lot of people struggled and/or didn't like it.

I'll be to the right of the entry shack under the trees. 3 dogs, 3 bikes, red ford/black trailer.

That’s what I thought, then I went and rode it. It’s literally 6”-12” of large wood chips on top of blue groove. My buddy referred to it riding like trying to turn on a rug that’s on a hardwood floor, it just will push out. It appears they don’t have a disc drag or ripper for their dozer so I guess they’re hoping the riders will mix it in. If they actually get it mixed in it could be improvement but for now it’s just wood chips on top of hard pack.

I've been saying it for years. Especially when compared to tracks in CA. I've proven with my personal track you can build big safe flowy obstacles but in the NW the belief is small = safe. And don't you dare call out a track on FB and give some constructive criticism, lol. Good times..........

It looks so fun I haven’t been but the pics and video I’ve seen it kinda reminds me of toes/alderdale which were my Two all time favorites

The table and triple thing after the whoops section at albany are perfect examples.

For those wondering about mtn view, 4:00 minute mark is a nicely put description and was the consensus when we saw the Honda rig there Sunday. Couldn’t think of worse conditions to test a new bike. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ci2pGT60Zz0

Not sure why they chose there I was thinking it was gonna be shougal at first. Maybe that dumbass spartan race there ruined that. I thought that fad was over with.

So MV was ok today. The chips are working in in some areas and getting blown off in others. It’s better but still not great. Imho 1) the chips are too big. They look like slash from lumber ops not chips from an arborist or landscaper. I prefer sawdust myself. And 2) I don’t think they have a dozer with rippers. That’s what it needs: ripped 18” deep, watered heavily, and then till in the wood. That would help a lot.

Right now in a lot of places it’s still hard clay under the chips and it gets dry slick. Add water (which they did today and caused chaos in Beginner session 3) and it’s wet slick.

My grade is a C. Average.

The county gave them the chips, I’m assuming from storm and wild fire clean up. There “chips” are basically hunks of wood. A mulch or sawdust would work much better. It desperately needs to be ripped or disc’d deep but I don’t see that happening or it already would have. It will remain as it is until they do so.

Maybe someone should construct a cheap disc setup for the track. Get something like some chain link fence and tubing. Some tubes crossing and weld some like spikes to them. Throw some cinder blocks / big rocks on top of it and drag it around.

Better than nothing and it would help.

It isn't an equipment issue from what I know it's more of a "this is the way we do it take it or leave it" issue. I dig Mt. View & the Hewitts are good people but they boys need to be a bit more open to constructive criticism, imo......
