So this week I came upon a deal that I thought was too good to pass up. Found a 2015 KX250F sitting in a guys garage that he bought as an impulse Mid-Life crisis buy and only rode it once. Titties still on the tires and everything. Gave him an offer of 4k and he took it. So 4k for an essentially brand new bike versus $8,500 seemed like a smart decision for how little I actually get to ride.

Still not entirely sure what my direction is for the build but I always loved the 2013-2014 PC bikes so I think I’m leaning towards something similar.

Does anyone have experience with the 14-16 250s and have specific recommendations? Definitely not a fan of the sound so I will probably be looking for a PC exhaust system. Wondered about clamps or a link to help the chassis as from I remember they didn’t handle quite as well as the Honda’s (long-time Honda 250f rider).

Opinions or recommendations are always welcomed!

So I took the bike out to ride for the first time. It had been sitting in the guys shop for years so I wasn’t sure how it would run but it seemed to run fine the first two motos. My last moto it started cutting out horribly. If I rolled it on very smoothly it wouldn’t cut out and it would idle okay but once I got it the thing would start cutting out bad. I’m thinking it’s either a fuel pump from sitting or the tps sensor.

Great start to the build though lol.

Could also be fuel injectors dirty

Dude, that is an amazing deal. Did you dump the gas that was in it (if there was any) prior to riding it? Also you'll definitely want to replace the air filter. I'm sure if you gave a six year old air filter a tug it would fall apart. I would make sure all the sensors are plugged in and working properly. Might not be a bad idea to pull the throttle body off and clean it good with Electrical Contact cleaner or throttle body air intake cleaner. I would pull the injector off while you are in there, clean and inspect it and replace any O-rings around it.

I had a 2015 for three years and loved that bike. As far as the cutting out goes I’d say pull the pump and replace the filter.

Looking at the parts fiche I don't see a separate part # for the fuel pump filter. Outside of the o-ring between the pump and tank I don't even see any other parts that I can order for the pump outside of ordering the whole unit itself. Is there a generic filter for those fuel pumps that I could purchase?

Not saying that is your issue but a good place to start seeing as the bike has sat for awhile. Good maintenance too for a bike that is 6 years old. If that doesn't cure it I'd check injector streams. These bikes have two. One at the throttle body and one upstream near the airbox.

Yep definitely was going to see if both injectors were working as well. The fact that it only does it during hard acceleration and not at idle or when slowly rolling the throttle on makes me think it’s something with fuel delivery.

its contaminated injectors. old junk in the fuel lines made its way into the injector.
