I could not agree with you more RichieW13. I love time behind leader and here is another reason to add why. I always look at time behind leader especially if you have a rider that has a bad start and when they come through the pack i like to see if he has a chance to get to the lead and even if he doesn't you can still see if he was the fastest on the day. For instance he might start in 25th and at one stage of the race is 30 sec's down on the leader, if at the end he finishes in 5th but is only 10 sec's behind the leader at the end its clear and easy to see how fast he was coming through the pack. I love watching that kind of progress. I don't mind gap behind every now and then but i would way prefer time behind leader. At the end of the day i just love watching racing and even if it stays at gap times, I'll still be watching and enjoying.

I'd much rather see time behind leader. It's easier to calculate the rider gap than the time behind the leader.

Bringing this back around this year. Sure felt to me that the 2nd motos in particular today showed rider gap about 75% of the time. Why? Why are they trying to force this change?

I say again: you have less information with rider gaps AND it looks messier. With time behind leader, you always know the gap to 1st and figuring out the gap between ANY other 2 positions requires one act of subtraction. You want to know how far Tomac in 7th is from catching Craig in 3rd? Compare their times behind leader. 6th to 5th? Compare their times behind leader. Any gap on the track is one act of subtraction away. Want to see how Shimoda is gaining ground on Jett in 1st while eating up the pack? Time behind leader.

With rider gap, now you are given the gap to only the next position, and figuring out the gap anywhere else becomes a headache real quickly. And it makes it damn near impossible to get a feel for someone climbing through the pack because you only ever know whether they're faster than the guy immediately in front of them unless you spend more time adding up other gaps. Dungey in 6th, oh he's only 0.987 + 2.347 + 6.395 behind 3rd! Wait, next time the times update I'll just add up three more gaps and then try to remember if it shrunk or grew from last time.

Why are we doing this? Time being leader is tried and true for a reason, gang.
