2020.5 Rockstar 450 connectivity unit issues, *not connecting*

Edited Date/Time 3/20/2022 11:49am
It comes stock on the 2021.5 but fits the 2020.5 as an add on.

Has anyone else out there installed one on their 2020.5 and if so, any issues with connecting?

I took it to the dealer on the bike, had them hook it up to their software to basically activate it..I have an android platform and it does show up as a "paired" device, it's name is "KTM Motorcycle", but it does not connect...nothing happens if I follow the power up and connect procedure. So I used my kids iPhone and got a little further.

I hit the starter button on the handlebar to energize the system, then hit the bar pad button 3 times fast, it flashes white/yellow/red for a few seconds. Then I open the myhusq app and it says, "connecting to bike", the light turns green, I hear the fuel pump turn on, then a few seconds later the error comes up. "Cant connect to device, turn off connectivity unit, wait three minutes and try again.

Been doing this for an hour, something is a miss, any experience with errors would be helpful.

Thanks-

When i attended a KTM 2021 demo day i got told that you can't retrofit a connectivity unit for the older bikes. Only 2021->.

I work here at a dealer in FL and was told the same thing from our KTM rep. 2021.5 Factory and 2021 regular bikes only.

That's what I read also in the initial press release when the connectivity unit first came out.

Did you have to pay the dealer for the hook up? Do they have responsibility to help you?

Yes, drove down to the dealer, (1 hour away), hookup to PC, wait to load a program, $100 later, hour ride home.

They haven't done any retro fits, only new units from the factory so it is the same process as for linking up, load, etc..they are making calls to their Husky tech people, I doubt it will be helpful.

Waste of time and money at this point for me.

Sorry dude..... this is the kinda stuff that really takes the fun out of moto.

So many times things don't work or fit as advertised

Hey Bruce, thanks for asking, sadly, no, it just won't work.

I even got a highly coveted "dealer" install sheet that they use to program it, (I can email it if anyone needs it), and apparently there are a lot of guys who did what I did and still nothing, but it will pop right on a 21' FC450 and work.

Gonna pull it and sell it here, they got me for $100 at the dealer and 2.5 hours out of my life but the 21' Rockstar has it so I will just have to wait til I get a 21' or 22'.

Best- J

Sorry to hear that dude. Real disappointment. Thing is, the bike runs so at least you can have fun.

Glad I didn't buy one because I was tempted.

Btw... did you used to post on dirtrider.net years ago?

Yes, I used to post there for a while about mods and engine stuff until I was crucified a few times for having an opinion..haven't been back since but for many years tuned the KTM's over @ KTMTALK in the forums, and helped develop some great products as well with other people over there.
Just ride and race with my daughter now, I tinker, but mostly just my own stuff, I sleep better at night now.

I Wanted to give an update on this issue. I also own a 2020.5 RE and had the same issue. My dealership talked with the Husqvarna rep and they gave the dealership some instructions. We installed the Connectivity Unit then plugged the bike into the shop computer and flashed the ECU to the 2021 software. After this the Connectivity Unit synced right up and seems to work like it should. I was able to create a new map and upload it to the bike without issue. Hopefully I can get out to the track this weekend for a test ride.

So I bought a slightly used 21.5' Rockstar that has the connectivity unit installed on it, stock from the factory. It was unplugged from the back of the front number plate, (the guy I bought it from does not use technology on his bikes lol), so I plugged it back in and tried to connect to it.
No Bueno.
I get an error stating that "the model bike you are trying to connect to is not available device" etc..so this bike came from Husky with this unit installed on it. I don't get it lol.
I have tried (3) different phones, uninstalling the app, re-installing the app, factory reset of the CCU, nothing.
The app loads, fuel pump turns on, but I never get the highlighted bluetooth logo that says it's paired, but the light is green saying it's paired.
It's unplugged now, oh well.

*update* I got it to work with an iPhone 13, so apparently many of the older OSX and Droid platforms don't support it. Hopefully it continues to work.
