Kxf450 2014 , won’t start unless u connect a battery (shouldn’t need a battery )

Hi all so was on the bike most of the day Saturday all good running perfect , left it in the shed few days and now won’t start , had a new stator already tried another condensor , soon as u give it 12v straight to condensor it starts 1st kick , once running it seems to be only running at 9v , has anyone ever had this problem see a few folk have posted about the 12v thing but not anyone posted there findings , thanks

Chase the schematic; by installing a battery into the circuit in place of the capacitor you eliminate both the stator and voltage regulator/rectifier from the circuit...the 9v while running would lead me to believe it’s either a faulty stator (just because it’s new doesn’t mean it works) or a faulty regulator rectifier (your prior post said your old stator burned. The stator shown here is a 3 phase system... from my understanding if one of the phases are lost by a bad diode internally in regulator the other two legs carry more current; which in turn generates more heat possibly explaining the prior stator damage)... check your grounds too... Also no need to start two threads...

Hi yeah my stator was damaged and earthed out , is there a way of checking the regulator ?

That’s the correct schematic yes... Unfortunately, some regulators can be bench tested some cannot it depends on the design of the regulator (I’m not familiar with Kawasaki’s design)... do a quick search on Google there’s plenty of in depth articles and videos on testing motorcycle regulators as well as stator output tests...

Sounds like a rectifier or capacitor issue since you replaced the generator
