Winter trail riding

Hi guys, anyone here rides trails in the winter? Thought I'd share a video of a recent ride on some snowy trails...
Local track has some enduro trails in the back of the track, what a blast!

Yep! Grip studs and warm clothes. Its a blast! Sucks washing the bike though when water freezes as you power wash it.

Did you buy those studs and make the tire yourself or buy it like that? If you made it what brand studs are they?

There is a near religious debate between Gripstuds vs Koldkuter screws. The tire above uses Gripstuds. The upside of Gripstuds is that they are larger and for trail riding you can get away with one per knob, downside is that their really wide screw-in portion does not easily allow for multiple screws per knob, plus they are EXPENSIVE...

I prefer Kold Kutter, they are a bit more involved to put in but I think they perform much, much better on ice (river and ice riding). Because they are lower profile (and sharper) they give more 'feel' when ice riding. You can literally 'feel' the tire smoothly powerslide out of turns, whereas on Gripstuds it kind of slides and hooks-up as the knobs make and lose contact (as they are taller and more spaced out). Koldkutter are also much cheaper (about 30-50 to do a tire for recreational riding, $100 for more racing set-up with better coverage), whereas Gripstuds are well over $400 range to do a tire properly...

Anyway, here is a video of how I do my tires:

So we've been riding on ice and snow, sometimes it's too deep, but then it just gets to be a different kind of challenge...

Let me know what you guys think of this 'substitute' for summer riding...

Screws are for lake and River ice, studs are for trails.
