Picked up a basically new 2015 kx250f recently to get me back into riding after about 8 years off. Its a decent bike on the track but I am really wanting more power..... low & midrange power. I am thinking about a 2021 for the extra power but dont have a way to ride one first to know if its a significant on track increase. Any input on this would be appreciated.

I would do a pipe/remap on the 2015 but pc is out of stock and I fear that will be for a long time......but if there were simple mods on a 2015 that helped low & mid I would love to hear it, thx!

I had a 14 that had some nice power with a fmf 4.1 and a yoshi. I tried both and they felt the same. Im not sure about new 250fs but your looking at a 6 year difference in technology. I'd reckon it would be pretty noticeable.

If you want low to mid power you better buy a 17-18-19 kxf 250 or a 19-20-21 yzf 250.
The 2021 kxf 250 is a screamer, it does have more low-mid power than the 2020, but not as much as the 17-18-19 motor.
My 2 cents.

Hey thanks, I told myself I was just getting a bike to putt around on with my 8 year old but this has not lasted long. I saw a kawi with a yosh and his sideplate was melted so I assumed they dont fit well?????? My local shop is kawi so really a 21 kxf is my best bet if going new. Is there a way to move the power down a bit on a 21 kx250?????

It may be melted if the guy riding was gripping a lot his sideplate... it happened to my 19 kxf with LM exhaust.
Anyway you could get better low to mid power with a pipe, map, and great race gas.

2015 was a really good and strong motor for a 250f you will not see any big gains in the newer engine in the hp department

I had a 2015 and just bought the '21. I haven't ridden mine yet but I did get to spin some laps on one this fall and it's awesome. My affair with the KX250f has been a 13' 15' 17' 19' and now a 21' I loved every one of them and they pretty much improved every year model I have owned. The big jump in handling and power most noticeable to me was from '15 to 17' I think 17' was a big improvement year with the fuel injection engine and frame. The 19' was great but came sprung super stiff but ended up being one of my favorites to date after having M9 suspension re-tool it. I am excited to get this 21' set up. This is my firs bike with a button!!! So stoked! especially since I am on the mend from a broken fib on the right ankle. No kicking with a sore foot.... They are all good bikes and you won't have any problem being competitive at the local level.Dial the suspension plug the white coupler in, install a slip(the stockers are loud AF) If you can afford it though get a new one!!! You'd probably be able to sell your 15' pretty easily if it's in good shape.

You should be looking at the 450 imo based on what and where you are looking for power

Ha your so right. Was lucky to get a New 450 every year until my 12'. My wrists and hands are so messed up after 12 surgeries between them I fear the small oh shit moments that happen sometimes on rough tracks might turn into big oh shit moments on a 450 lol. For some reason its just fun on a 250f at the moment even going slower
