Crazy how it happened, but sounds like he’ll be good to start slowing training in a few weeks.

No fun waking up in recovery and the one thing they operate on you need to use immediately. Then having the chest tube pulled out is another memorable moment, second only to them putting it in with just local. Fun times!

Tell me about it. I had 2 chest drains which were in for 5 days.

They go in 9 inches.

That weird crunchy feeling when they put it in, and ripping it out, I won't forget either in a hurry!

Having a tube put in being awake was the worst experience of my life...

It sounds like he had pleurodesis surgery that fuses the lining of the lung to the chest wall to prevent air pockets getting in between that cause the collapse.

That's what I had and I was as right as rain in a couple of weeks.

My son (now 11 months) was born with pneumothorax. Most joyous moment of my life brought to reality real quick when NICU starts rolling in the room, doctors start shoving tubes down your new borns throat, and pounding him on the back. Spent a week in NICU letting it heal. Being that young they heal themselves and don’t require surgery. It was a scary first night until we met with a doctor who could explain it in non medical terms.

Heal up Max!

The way we were explained it by the doctors was...your lung has a bunch of tiny air sacs that can burst for numerous reasons. (Common at birth that the baby inhales water and fills the air sacs with liquid causing them to burst) When they burst they cause a small tear in the lung, creating an air pocket between the lung and chest cavity. Most can heal on their own. Sometimes surgery is required to remove these air pockets. Majority of infants are born with it and you can’t even tell. Ours the tear was big enough it acted as a collapsed lung although it wasn’t collapsed (think of sticking a fist between your lung and rib cage It would be hard to take a full breath). Maybe he has some air sacs that are Inflamed or filled with liquids are they are going to fix them so they don’t burst.

I was out when they put mine in, but having a chest tube pulled out is a crazy experience i'll never forget. Followed closely by having a catheter removed and having the GI tube removed from your nose.

Come on guys! My 78 year old Mother had 5 thoracentesis then had a Pleurx catheter installed to drain accumulating fluid from her lungs as she is battling lung cancer. She didn't whimper nearly as much as y'all! LOL

Just kidding, yeah, the removal of the Plurex was painful for sure!
