OK So its a broken Knee cap. I never had to deal with an injury like that I dont no much about it. SO does anyone no what its like? Can anything be done to get him back on a bike ASAP? Can any other damage be caused if he rides? Hopefully not. Its going to be painful but i wouldnt count him out. Mike Alessi is not going to give up that easy. DO NOT COUNT HIM OUT.
When surgery is necessary, an incision is made over the front of the knee joint. The fractured ends are realigned and held in place with some combination of pins, screws, and wires. In some cases, a portion of the patella can simply be removed, but this is usually done for smaller fracture fragments.
But regardless, it is 6 weeks minimum to put it back together... My Bro had the same injury...
He misses High Point, week off, and 4 rounds after that... He's out...

I had a similar injury three years ago, and I wasn't right for a good 3 months. I split mine pretty clean right down the middle and needed 4 pins inserted laterally. It's an incredibly painful injury. The good thing is he doesn't have ligament damage, meaning therapy will be relatively simple, allowing him to get back on a bike pretty quickly for off season training.
