I'm not saying the dude made some seriously dumb and obviously life altering decisions, but you can't argue in a court of law that a method of restraint (taser) is non-lethal and then turn around and say your life is in danger because a guy has a taser.

Brooks was running away with zero attempt to stop and turn around when he discharged the taser and was then shot IN THE BACK. I shoot a dude robbing my house in the back who actually has a gun and he dies, I will be the one arrested and sued because he was trying to escape and flee the scene, therefore no longer presenting a clear and present danger.

Oh yeah there is this, my Uncle is a well respected criminal defense attorney here in LA who has defended LEO's in these exact kinds of cases. Getting shot in the back while fleeing is always a losing proposition for the shooter, especially when there was no firearm in the perps hand.

Everyone can have their own opinion. Your family included. However it doesnt mean their opinion is correct and it certainly doesnt mean these officers will be charged criminally. If they are, it's nothing but a political grab and they will be found not guilty. They will both use Atlanta and will both win a ton of money. Watch and see.

2020 sucks donkey dick.
I think it looks justified. The video clearly shows that.

I havent read much about this particular case. Seems like the guy made some pretty big mistakes, and deserved a severe reaction, but probably didn't need to be shot in the back.
He was shot in the back as he was running away firing a taser at a cop. Wtf?

So the very same guy who just wrestled with the cop and stole the cops taser, you want the cops to just let him run away....

Is there any personal responsibility anymore? How about HE doesn’t drive DUI. How about HE doesn’t wrestle with cop. How about HE doesn’t take cops taser. How about HE doesn’t point taser at cop.

Yeah, this is exactly the kind of guy you just want to let run away.

Come on man.....

Good riddance to this scumbag. He got exactly what he deserved.

Lesson: don’t drive dui, and if you do, don’t wrestle with cop, and if you do, don’t steal his taser, and if you do don’t turn and point taser at cop, and if you do, boom your dead.

Seems pretty simple.

His choices resulted in his death. And only his choices.

He could of just gone to the drunk tank like most everyone else who gets pulled over for DUI.

His choices resulted in his death.

I'm not arguing the merits or lack thereof of this dudes life. He was passed out behind the wheel of his non-running car partially blocking a drive-thu. He wasn't armed, and asked to just walk a half mile or whatever it was home. He could have been cited and ordered to appear and then let him walk home, which is basically what he was asking for and a courtesy most people would get.

For whatever reason shit went sideways when the officers insisted on arresting him, and here we are. I'm strictly pointing out the facts of the situation which will be used against the dept/officers in a court of law by a competent attorney.

Do I think the guy was an asshole? Yes. Could it have been handled differently? Yes.
Are you....being serious? Cited for what? By "cited" I assume you mean charged with DUI? Certainly you cant be insinuating that the officers were wrong to charge him with DUI? And if I'm assuming you are okay with them charging him for the DUI you do understand that you cant just put someone through a field sobriety test then file the charges, right?? You do understand you cant charge DUI without a chemical test, right? You do understand a breathalyzer isnt admissible in court, right? You HAVE to take the person into custody and have a chemical test done. Here we do blood tests at the ER. Then they're sent home and charges are filed.

I love how you throw the little bull shit racial dig in there too. "A courtesy most people get." No, most people dont get that courtesy. Most people, who drive drunk, are taken into custody without incident and provide a chemical test. Most people also dont drive intoxicated. Most people dont assault police. Most people dont wrestle tasers away from police. Most people certainly dont fire them at the police. All of this, right here, is why most people dont get killed by the police.

You clearly have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. It probably is best for you to bow out of this conversation honestly. You're assuming a lot of things you know nothing about.

I didn't say it was wrong. But if these officers are charged they will be found not guilty in a court of law. Wait and see, and if they're not you can come back here and I'll admit I was wrong. I wont be though, it's not an opinion when it will be proven correct. I'm saying he can have his opinion on whether or not it was justified.

My thing with all this bullshit is this.

Organize humans in any capacity and you will find fault. We are not perfect.

If you believe that the police and justice systems are a fault, treat you different because of your race, why get involved. Avoid them at all cost.

I pay my taxes because I don't want to go to jail, go a safe speed because I don't want some dipshit town cop taking me to court because I was 10 over. I don't punch people in the mouth every time I feel like it.

I also don't wrestle with police and try to take their weapons because I don't want to get shot.

An interesting thought I have had that is unrelated to whether he deserved to be shot or not; should the officer have been firing in his direction while he was running in the direction of cars parked in the drive thru? I'm a hunter, I know not to shoot when my target is in between myself and my house/truck/fellow hunter....was it worth shooting at this man in a crowded drive thru with innocent bystanders nearby? Just a thought

Gotta love the internet police. No law enforcement experience. Telling officers how to handle a incident.

Anybody arguing against the cop has clearly never been to the scene of a drunk driving accident, and it shows. I can't imagine being a police officer and having to see that regularly, and then having to deal with this, while you're just trying to get somebody like that off the streets to keep everybody else safe.

Agree, and in a roundabout way, alcohol claimed another victim.

My biggest problem with the cops lies is the minutes leading up to the shooting. The officer had to make the decision to end the guy's life because two officers managed to lose control of the situation. It went from fairly civil to two cops rolling around on the ground and one managing to lose his service weapon in the process. That looked like a clown show. They were either poorly trained or poor at their job.

Sucks someone lost his life, and it sucks for the citizens of Atlanta they get to pay for a prosection that will likely end with further violence and property damage after the acquittal is announced. No winners.

I honestly don't know. Hence why I was asking. Literally just looking for some insight and other people's opinions. I have no law enforcement experience. I have hunting experience and that is what I know from hunting. Something tells me most people in this thread don't have first hand law enforcement experience. I am in no way arguing either side, just had a thought and wanted to know how people thought in regards to it so I can try to figure out a stance. No need to be passive aggressive.

Again, just asking a question to try to gain some knowledge. I never once said I agreed or disagreed with any of it. Just a simple question. I never told anyone how to handle it. Just asked how other people see a situation. Please show me where I said how I would do it. I believe I have said twice now that I have no idea how I would react and my knowledge is only from a hunting situation. Therefore, I admit I have no expertise in this at all. I admit I don't have all the answers. Just trying to learn.

Set that split second aside for a minute and humor me here. Given the benefit of body cam footage, throw 10 pairs of average officers with identical training into the same situation from the second the call went out about a drunk passed out in his car. Seeing how it played out, how many of those 10 end up in fatal shootings? 1 out of 10, 9 out of 10. In other words, do you feel that "split second" was inevitable or reasonably avoidable?

It's not my job to train doctors, but in a roundabout way it is my job to question how they did their job. Ever heard of Christopher Duntsch?

If you assault an officer, forcibly take his taser, point that taser at him then fire it? Yeah, the vast majority of the time you will be shot.

These officers were polite and professional the entire time. No one can argue that in any way. They absolutely did NOT escalate the situation. The suspect did and his actions caused his own death.

I have hunting experience and that is what I know from hunting. Something tells me most people in this thread don't have first hand law enforcement experience. I am in no way arguing either side, just had a thought and wanted to know how people thought in regards to it so I can try to figure out a stance. No need to be passive aggressive.

You can have an opnion all you want, if you have no experience, its invalid.

Tell that to the inexperienced jurors that ultimately decide the fate of cops and doctors that botch their jobs.

I'll only speak to DUI arrests here in CA. No, they don't administer a blood test for every DUI. If the suspect fails the FST and blows right at the .08 limit, or they blow .00 and they suspect other drugs are in play they might take them in to the ER for a test, or let them go since those are hard to charge and prosecute here. If you fail the FST and blow higher than a .08 you are going straight to the bed and breakfast. There are and have been many times where the driver is cited on scene and given a notice to appear and sent on their way if there is a sober driver in the car, or close by, it's all up to the ranking officer on scene. Ever seen how DUI checkpoints go here? You think they are hauling everyone off to jail? No, they are not. If the driver is solo and has no way to get home safely then you get a flat bed and a shitty ride in the back of a black and white.

Only a refusal to blow after a failed FST will get you an automatic trip to the ER. Now you can refuse both and the DA can try and prosecute, but those tend to not go anywhere other than a loss of your license for a year and a no contest on your record for 7 years.

And there were zero racial digs in my post that you quoted, the fact that you interpreted it that way is part of the problem.

At this point we can just agree to disagree on this and move on. ✌️

Gotta love the internet police. No law enforcement experience. Telling officers how to handle a incident.

Anyone who does a job and performs shitty deserves some scrutiny.

If you have a broken tibia and end up with an amputated leg due to the surgeons negligence, do you just say "o well, I'm not a doctor!"?
