I've heard a lot of people mentioning that it is just too much to cram into one day with the Women running both motos on race day. Meanwhile, JP is complaining about not having long enough motos.
I personally like the idea of having the Women's racing on the same day but the scheduling needs to have some common sense. They ran 5 laps in moto one and only 4 laps in moto 2 at Glen Helen. Most Amateur novice classes run longer than that. However, they had a sighting lap for both motos that took a long time for them to roll around the track for a lap and then get re-set. The Hangtown schedule currently has 10 minutes scheduled for each sighting lap and 15 minutes for the motos. After each moto there is 10 minutes scheduled for podium interviews. That doesn't make any sense to spend more time on the sight lap and podium stuff than the actual race. Cut out the sighting lap, make them 20 minute motos and run the podium interviews at the same time as the 250 sight lap and you save at least a half hour while still giving the women more than just a 4 lap sprint race.

To fit all this shit on 2 days are required!
I'm just trying to point out that they are wasting a lot of time before and after the very short women's motos.
Well it is their job ;0) would be nice to see two days. I guess if theyre going for that elusive TV deal I understand, but it would still be nicer to make a weekend of it, especialy when as a fan you travel so far you kinda make a mini holiday out of it.

It was a shame that some of these girls drove or flew across the country to race a national event only to get 9 laps of racing...total.
How many of us wouldn't be bitching about spending (in the nieghborhood of) $300-$500 per lap? I know I'd be upset.
And it seemed longer than that....................
I don't have to pay for a team's lodging/travel expenses nor am involved in TV packaging but as a fan I am not down with the one day program.
My vote would be either go back to qualifying on one day and racing the next or don't run the WMA the same day as the 250/450 motos.
BTW I have friends that bag on the WMA big time but from growing the sport I think it is an excellent idea to promote women's races. Danica Patrick has dramatically increased Indy's exposure......but the difference is she is racing with the men and not in a women's league.
Look, for 2009 the girls are here and they deserve a chance this summer, and (again) the vast majority of the riders or teams want a one-day program and they want it on TV. We've accomplished that, and we are working on more ways to make the series better.
But let's get through this weekend -- shorter track, no other support classes, a start and finish that do not overlap and make everyone wait until the very last guy is through -- and see how it's working.
