The shoulder was fine for years, some ROM issues but overall good. Now, nearly 40 years later it is painful on occasion.
If I had that same injury today I wouldn't think twice about the surgery, shit's vastly improved.
If that is you in your avatar you're carrying a lot of muscle around that shoulder, it will be more difficult to retain that after this injury.
Been rehabbing it since with PT 1×~2x a day.
Three weeks since and I have 100% ROM back. Strength is at about 65% through all ROM, except through parts of crossing shoulder adduction. Big shock on that one though, since shoulder adduction puts the most stress on the AC joint.

The McConnell taping allowed me to keep using my arm "normally" without hurting it and allowing it to heal. I believe this is one of the main reasons I've gotten my ROM back so quickly. It wasn't able to really atrophy.
There's no more arguing. He was right. Shoulders are fucking a nightmare. I tore my rotator in my right shoulder Jan 2018. Had surgery to repair it and it took over a year to feel close to right and there's still nights l can't sleep lying down.
l had my knees replaced in 2011 and it was a cake walk compared. Good luck and do bust ass in PT it makes all the difference.
I was amazed how much better my shoulder felt after one week and that gave me doubts if I should get the surgery. Also, all the research I did online gave me doubts but I just said eff it, I’ll get the surgery and make sure my bones are solid in place.
The problem with this situation is, we can never know if the path we took was the best one. I’m happy with my surgery, but maybe the no surgery route would have been just as good.
There is a cosmetic benefit, which I didn’t really care about, but is nice. My shoulder looks the same as my non-injured shoulder. I had quite a displacement before the surgery.
Doc said surgery would only be cosmetic if I wanted to go that route but said if it don't hurt and works fine leave it alone.
Still riding and have never had an issue with it.
Since injuring, have you; injured your other shoulder with the same injury? Have reinjured the same with the same injury?
I'm very curious about this.
Also, sorry if my grammar is off. One of my current goals during this quarantine is to better my texting/writing grammar. Don't know if it's going well or not. 😅
In this crash I destroyed my helmet pretty good, so I'll be getting a new one and would like some of that info from you all. I know every crash is different. But I would just like to hear your experiences. I'm not asking for your favorite helmet, just what is above.
Also, if someone could tell me, what is the actual difference between these helmets:
6d atr1 & 6d atr2 (one is just the newer version?)
Bell mx9 & bell moto9
Fox v2 & fox v3 (both have the fluid, maybe more air vents?)
Let me know, and sorry for the long posts.
Cody
However I did race Mammoth MX with it seperated prior to surgery. Not fun. But I dislocated it a few weeks prior to mammoth so I decided to still race and get surgery after Mammoth.
Little side note. The crash was actually on a pit bike that I borrowed from Josh Grant. Those little bike will get you.
