Hiya guys I will be relocating to townsville, qld in May from the UK and as a major enduro rider what are my options.
I've already looked into clubs and there is one in townsville but what I want to know is in regards to registering, using and buying a enduro bike in qld compared to the UK?
Any help appreciated I've trawled the Internet but its not a popular topic therefore not much info

You won't know what hit you, sport!

Now we ( I ) bitch about the cost of rego and compulsory third party insurance of our bikes, but, at least once you've got those, you can access much of OZ.

I go on rides here ( mostly, in the Blue Mountains, NSW, right besides the largest city / urban area of OZ, far, Far south of where you'll be) where we regularly have a few Poms ( and, Euros) with us. They, are generally stunned by the riding we have here, as, most of them are 'Green Laners', or, Competition riders. The scope of our terrain leaves them stunned.

It's a good thing to have 'others' with us, because we sometimes need reminding that we do have pretty good riding opportunities here in OZ, despite the hardcore Greenies having so much power, and them targeting us / other Off Roaders for vilification.

Up in Townsville / North Queensland, I'd say you'll have absolutely endless riding opportunities.

That's sounds great in terms of buying a bike does it have to be a road rego bike or can anything be road rego?
By that I mean can I buy a mx bike a reg it or does it have to be a road rego bike from new?

We've got ADRs - Australian Design Regulations- that have to be met for Road Registration. Pretty much like most countries. Have a Compliance Plate on your bike, if it passed for Blue Slip or Pink slip, you can get Rego.

Without it, you're up the creek. Engineers certificates, have been an option, that is slowly being shut down. Or, costs a fortune. Strangely, you still see death traps like custom Harley's, still getting on the road.

Some States have Competition Rego, and some States may have less stringent Rego rules - buggered if I know what QLD has. It's the 'Deep South' of OZ, even if it's the North Woohoo

As for riding without Rego, and getting away with it, well, in Country areas it depends on the local constabularies tolerance. But, if you hit a car, another MC rider, MTBer, or Bush Walker, well, you'd be in deep shit, without Compulsory Third Party insurance and Rego. Fines for being on the road - and bush tracks generally are just as 'on the Road' as if you were on George Street, Sydney - are pretty bloody frightening, too.

If you are an MXer, exclusively, you better get used to travelling big distances. It's a bloody Big Country, mate. That's another thing Poms, and others from OS, have to come to terms with, when they get here. We pack ourselves in on the coast, ( to the point of lunacy) with a vast , VAST country just a little ways from suburbia.

As I said, you won't know what hit you. Hopefully, you'll settle in, and love it. If not, you can always go back to your wet, tiny little country ( which,
I quite like ) .......Whistling

Well luckily for me I'm an enduro/green lane rider only too scared and slow to go back on a mx track now haha.
That's great thanks what sort of prices are the registration and other fees per year?
Too behonest I already know what bike I'll be getting as it the same one I have here in the UK the crf 450 rx although I might have to get the crf450l if road reg is a issue.
Nah we will love it we've been to the gold Coast no end of times and fell in love with the attitude and mentality of Aus people not to mention the wages etc.

To be clear - lots of options for road rego.
Things like KTM EXC’s, Yamaha WR’s are easy to get registered.
SX, XC, YZ, CRF, RMZ, etc are impossible (Except for limited “Rec Reg” in some states.)

Also, two great things about QLD:
1. No annual “inspections”. So if you don’t actually ride on the street, your registered bike might lose it’s indicators/mirrors and still be covered by insurance etc.
2. Registration/insurance is cheaper for “solo” bikes. (Most insurance claims are from pillions)
