Heard someone mention on day broadcast there is like 12 to 15 ex 250 champions in the 450 class. That’s something that never dawned on me.

Roczen, Barcia, Tomac, Anderson, Webb, Ciancarillo, Stewart, Baggett, Osborne, Hill, Wilson, Plessinger, Bogle, Reed. 14 of the top 20 in points are a former 250 sx and or mx champ.

Musquin could be added as well if he hadn't got injured. Tickle will be another when he returns. It sure is crazy to think that the vast majority of these guys in the 250 class will most likely disappear and never be heard from again in the next couple years. Really fast guys like Mosiman. Oldenberg, Mcadoo, Clout, Brown etc. History pretty much shows that lites champions are typically the guys who continue to make mains in the premier class.

The top 12 last in the 450 main at Oakland are all previous champions. 13th was Brayton, the 4 time Aus SX champ. I reckon the field is pretty deep.

Very true, your second paragraph. Kinda feel bad for guys like Sexton. Maybe they’ll adjust the rule in a couple years when this gets outta hand.

I'm confused. Adjust what rule? And Sexton is already a champ. If we're going off history he should be ok.

The only adjustment should be to let these champs ride what is best for the individual, 2-or 4 stroke, any cc. Or even electric. Also be able to switch up as much as wished throughout year.

Really? How did you manage to bring two strokes into this?

Unbelievable

Not forcing some of the young guns up to the 450 class so soon. There was discussion on one of the podcasts or somewhere recently about Jett Lawrence, and 'what if' he hadn't gotten hurt, and won the 250 title this year. Under the current rules, he would only be allowed to ride in the 250 class one more year, then BAM, he would be competing with Tomac, Roczen, Webb etc.

Gotcha. I'm not sure how I feel about it honestly. On one hand maybe some guys arent ready. But on the other hand the guys who are forced to move up and are the cream of the crop typically are fine. The issue is, when a guy wins a 250 title you kind of expect him to do the same in the 450 class. However the reality is you've got about 15 guys with a 250 title and only 1 can win every year. I feel like the best always rises to the top whether you're in the 250 class for 2 or 4 years. It really doesn't matter. Example, Tomac and Roczen were going to win no matter how many years they were in the 250 class. Malcolm Stewart was never going to win a 450 title. Anyone who argues otherwise is wrong. We all knew Malcolm could be a top 10 guy though. Malcolm staying in the 250 class another year or two wouldn't have made any difference. He would still be a solid top 10 guy.

I’m with you. And I don’t feel Sexton is ready for the 450 class. He’s a SX champ yes, but only because the guy that kicked his ass week in and week out got hurt. And Forkner isn’t ready for the big class anytime soon. So if Forkner isn’t ready, I know Sexton isn’t ready.

Forkner will probably be ready for the 450 class after next year. I do agree with Sexton moving up a little early. What do you guys think the right rule would be? Mandatory move up at age 23, 25? 3 championships? I'm not sure what the correct age is since every rider is so different.
