2004 - 3rd October

Matthes - "I'll give a mulligan to Zacho; shitty starts, rain, vision, narrow track". Kevin Strijbos crashed on the start in the last race. He was 36th after lap 1, but came through the pack and put 20 seconds on Zach to finish 11th. Let's be real and I like Zach, he was poor all day. He came from 13th to 5th in a pretty weak (450 wise) field in the first race. He started to go backwards in the last race (with a deeper field) and ultimately got lucky that 4 riders ahead of him had mechanicals and could've finished 17th.

Matthes - "I don't want to sound like a dick and i'm bagging on Zach or the guys ahead of him, but it's a classic fucking example of it being different, just different - you cannot say, this guy did this, so this guy is gonna do this in Europe". Yet, multiple times during the show he states certain riders from Europe wouldn't do this or that in the US.

Maybe, unlike you, I go back further in this sport than 2004? Or maybe you cherry picked your dates from 2004 and up but when I speak about the dates, here's what I mean and I can go further back if you want. So my statement that they keep pushing the date back is correct.

1989 Sept 10- Germany
1990 Sept 16- Sweden
1991 Sept 8- Holland
1992 Sept 6- Australia
1993 Sept 12- Austria
1994 Sept 11- Switzerland
1995 Sept 10- Slovakia
1996 Sept 22- Spain
1997 Sept 14- Belgium
1998 Sept 27- GB
1999 Sept 26- Brazil
2000 Sept 10- France
2001 Sept 30- Belgium
2002 (Dates all jacked up with Socal race)
2003 Oct 5- Belgium
I haven't cherry picked anything, I simply provided the MXoN dates since Youthstream (circa 04/05) took over.

You might "go back further in the sport" and continue to be dismissive of people as "uneducated" but the fact remains, you stated on the show that "Youthstream keep adding GP's and push the date back".

You're now just scraping the barrel going back nearly 30 years to find a real step change:

1988-1995 - September 10th (on average).
1996-2003 - September 29th (on average).
2004-2011 - September 26th (on average).
2012-2019 - September 29th (on average).

None of this was a damn issue until Team USA stopped winning!

It’s a good thing Pierce Brown doesn’t race a Supercross because they would never beat our champ in 3..2..1..
We should have a Mx Nations of Straight Rhythm in 3..2..1 😂

Although I may not agree with ANY journalist 100% of the time, I do respect their opinion. Bashing them is just gutless, stupid and a waste of time.
Does this include Jim Acosta? Evil

All of this 'level playing field' discussion would end with a reasonably simple change in the schedules of BOTH the US Nationals and the MXGP series.

We have all heard the problems:

• The timing does not suit with the Nationals ending 6 weeks earlier than GPs = perceived GP rider advantage
being at peak fitness.

• The event is too late, and with many of the tracks are in crappy weather climates = rains ruin the overall race (cant
see the track through the cameras)

• Top riders in the US have to move from Nationals right to SX training/prep = US team investment will favor SX
over other events

• The costs of traveling for teams and equipment ($300k?) = no team is going to raise their hand to spend that $$$.

Scheduling Change: IMO looking at both the US Nationals and MXGP schedules, if the MXoN were agreed to be scheduled in the last 3 weeks of July, as a break in the middle of the US Nationals and MXGP schedule, this would address most of the problems listed above.

• All riders worldwide would be in the middle of their fitness and performance for outdoor motocross racing.

• The weather is generally favorable in July.

• There would be no US training/prep conflicts for SX.

• The 'break' would be a welcome benefit to the riders, mechanics, and families in both series.

• A neutral event location may be considered that reduces the costs, (maybe when the MXGPs are hopping from
Europe to Asia).

So you want to hold the MXdN in the middle of national and world championships? Yeah but no I just do not see Tomac willing to risk injury while leading the Nationals to go race the Nations when he is not really willing at the best of times and I do not see the MXGP riders wanting the risk either.

This is such a bad idea it’s untrue. First of all, the weather is not a problem. The last 3 MXdN have been wet, but in all of them all the jumps were being done and they were not slop fests at all. Before 2017 the last mudder at MXdN was 1998. I think we’ve done pretty well when it comes to weather.

Nobody is going to go to this race in the middle of the season. When World/National Championships are in progress. It’s just not going to happen.

The costs of travelling are not cheap but you shouldn’t be using $300k as a ballpark figure. That’s an absolutely ridiculous sum and it can be done for much less as was proved at Red Bud

The best time for this event is at the end of September when all national championships and the GP’s are finished. It is the event that closes the season. It would lose so much by being in the middle of the season. This event is 73 years old now and the vast majority have been held in the latter part of September. That should tell you there’s not a lot wrong with the scheduling of this event
