No, his country kept him off the team last year for the MXON even after he won the RedBud National, so this year he just said no thanks, and yes it was before the injury. Can you blame him?

I feel like Redbull and France should have been able to come to some sort of compromise but I can see the argument from both sides. If I was Redbull/KTM and I footed the bill for the bikes/training/logistics/etc. for a rider for a season (and I also imagine they will be footing most of the bill for his appearance at MXDN) I would definitely want a decent sized spot on the graphics/apparel. But also MXDN is a hugely patriotic race with great history so I can understand France wanting France to be the center of attention for their theme and not an energy drink company and I feel like that is pretty reasonable but no one will probably ever know what the real reason was so its just a shame for all party's involved.

The FFM want it their way or no way for this event. The bikes, jerseys, helmets etc are all FFM designed/approved. If not, they wont accept the rider. Just the way it is with them. Dealing with one of the FFM riders graphics, I basically had no say in the design of the graphics. FFM sent us the design and thats the way it is. Which sucks as a sponsor because we would love the freedom to make a nice patriotic kit that we can actually sell to the public to get some ROI. Instead, its their design that, IMO, doesnt look great and wont sell.

Just to clarify who is to blame on this argument, quote below from FIM Rule Book regarding Helmet Regulations:

2.8.MXN FIM Motocross of Nations

a) Helmets It is recommended that the helmet’s overall colour scheme represent the colours of the team’s national flag. The national flag can be replicated in stripes, bands or other designs. In addition, the defending FIM Team World Champion is allowed to wear the rainbow colours on the helmet.

The overall pattern on the helmet – including its colour scheme, the stripes and bands or other designs representing the national flag of the team and/or the use of the “rainbow” on the helmet (in the case of the defending Champions) – must always be approved by the FMN of the team.
The rider’s personal sponsors may be integrated into the overall pattern or displayed in a separate area under the lower end of the strap of the goggles (horizontal line). Consequently, the helmet of each of the riders may be different, but the pattern of the helmet of each rider of a single team must have a similar visual appearance.

Whenever a team is using a helmet and there is a case of “force majeure” (e.g. change of rider, broken helmet, etc.), the helmet in question can be replaced by any other helmet, provided that it complies with the FIM Technical Rules for the current year and has been presented to the Technical Stewards of the event.

I think this is a fair compromise, and one which I would guess Rd Bull would disagree as they are selfish bully boys who don't put as much into the sport as some would believe, and will drop an athlete at a moments notice, as they have in the past in all sports they are involved, they think they are bigger than any sport they are involved in, they need to get real and obey the rules

I can and do blame him. Holding petty grudges is what 12 year olds do. Him and Ferrandis both need to put some spinach in their crepes and grow balls like Popeye the Sailor Man did, and race for their country if asked.

You should really try to get some unbiased info before starting a rant over a major sponsor in this sport.

What you said especially on the "selfish bully boys" is just really false.

And the issue is about a hat, the details are in the video below : for the 1st time the french federation wanted a hat with their colors, red bull who pay most of the circus said ok, 50% your logo/50% ours, the french federation said no it is 70% our logo/30% yours. So yes, Red Bull could have swallowed the pill, but in no way it was Red Bull bullying and asking 70% their logo and 30% the logo of the FFM. And here to be more precise we are talking about a 2cm difference of logo on the hat ; i really think it is 100% the federation to blame, you can't just disqualify a 18 years old rider you have just selected because you don't want to negotiate 2 more centimeters on a hat that nobody cares of, that is just ridiculous.

For those who speak French, here is Fred Vialle's 1 hour interview yesterday evening (5 or 10 minutes only are about the issue, because they mainly talked about the mxdn, team NL, team USA, the ama sx season, the GPs, KTM, Joel Smets, how they got selected by KTM, how professional it is, how during his career he managed to have 0 injury, etc : it is a great interview btw, Fred Vialle is a great guy, very humble as always) :

BS... it's not about their pride for country, but dealing with a fucked up French Federation. Last year MM volunteered, the French Fed came to see him, then dropped him, then came back when they lost a rider with little time. I get it if I were Marv. Ferandis did his duty and was outward early on that he did not want to go to a lame sandy 'supercross' track.

Over a friggin hat!!! Seriously a hat!! So let me get this straight, KTM (Red Bull)pays 100% of the costs for this race with zero financial help from the French federation and they boot the kid from the team because they want the biggest logo on the hat...good luck in repeating as champs!!.....Morans

Here is the interview of the FFM president :
https://moto-station.com/moto-verte/mx-sx/jacques-bolle-il-faut-arreter…

Here is the hat :
https://moto-station.com/moto-verte/mx-sx/mxdn-la-casquette-de-la-disco…

And Tom Vialle's interview :
https://moto-station.com/moto-verte/mx-sx/tom-vialle-jai-cru-a-une-blag…

I hope google translate will be accurate Wink

And i remain on my position, Tom Vialle should have never been excluded and this matter should have discussed later at the FIM.

Yes he has performed awesome at Mxon's. I think 6 out of 10 motos on the podium or something like that.

I'm just saying that based on 2019 results i would have always picked febvre and musquin over him (if uninjured and without the politics in the french team).

Now that I've seen the hat I can't believe this is what the whole thing was over hahaha I figured this was over jersey logos etc. Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction.

Pit Berier from KTM held no punches back here. Along with the sponsor restrictions, he says something has to give with the scheduling of the race...

Interesting times for the MXoN.

Just when I was thinking we could not get more popcorn, a ship has just arrived !

Great interview, and I 100% agree.

I don't know if this thread is HOF / or HOF Dumbgeon material, but no doubt it seriously delivers !
