remember this guy?
I can remember as clear as yesterday him making eagle at the last hole of the Hope to shoot 59, and then later that year winning the Players to knock Tiger Woods off at number 1. He's still the only one to do that while Tiger wasn't in the middle of a swing change.

Larry, he's a GT guy. What was the buzz like when he was playing there.

Vijay's in 2004 wasn't straight up

DD took him down right before TW went on the greatest run in Golf History form late 1999-2002.

I guess the lesson is-don't piss off a Tiger

Deano... I've seen David play quite a few times and as of late it can be quite painful. Sat and watched him take a quad bogey at torrey pines on number 15 it was brutal, He ended up shooting in the 80's. I always pull for the guy, would love to see him get his game back.

that's why I brought it up. He was a lot of fun to watch and seemed like a really cool guy.

I would hate to see him struggle. I followed him for a couple of holes at the US Open in Pinehurst (99) and he was swinging great.

Dean I was not into golf when Duval was at GT but he is also from my home town Jax. Fla. so a few of my family who play have watched him through the years.
He got kind of a bad rap as not being fan friendly but he is just extremely shy and seems like a decent guy.
He was always kind of a chubby guy and after he reached #1 went on a big training kick and lost a bunch of weight. That is also about the time his game went south and people wonder if he lost his swing with his weight. There is also some who think he tore his shoulder up real bad snowboarding and has never been able to recover from that.
Didn't he win a British open also?

he won the 01 British. His last victory of any kind

positional vertigo is what david had or has.. same thing Furyk went thru. Dave has had some great rounds in the last couple years but cant put them back to back. I see the players at The Hope, Torrey pines and Riviera.
Deano you said pinehurst how close are you to there...?
My daughter and I have been very fortunate with golf tourney's. Especially the Hope, For what ever reason George Lopez took a liking too us and has hooked us up. The guy is amazing. I have some pretty cool photos if you ever want to see them.

2 hours max

we went in 99 and 05

was fortunate to play number 2 ( open course) one week to the day after Payne sunk that putt to win.

We walked in long pants, took caddies. Bleachers and scoreboards were still up but the the rough was cut and greens were slowed (thank god)
had the whole tour pro for a day thing. It was pretty damn cool, I gotta say. Walking the fairways with no bag, arms swinging free like Freddy Couples (ok, maybe I'm not that cool)

I played really good tee to green, had 2 birdies and shot an 80.

It was a great day.

yeah, you guys are spoiled out there with tournaments. The Hope would be great to go too. I like Lopez on there. He's nowhere near as annoying as Murray and Ray Ramano

me and over the hill played behind Barkley a few years ago at the Birmingham CC.
Poor old Charles was all over the place but he had a big time and was very friendly to everyone he met.

Nice.. I was going to be jealous if it was right down the road, well jealous first and then visiting second..lolGrinning

They have a tournament called the "day after the buick" at torrey pines, people spend the night in the parking lot to get in it, no pre entry, day of only and only so many get in, sunday pins and everything, 7400 yards. my buddy jon has got in a couple times and i dont think he's broke 100 and he's 7 to 9 index.

80's a great score on a track like that. I havent played with a caddy and walked sounds fun. My buddy played Bethpage black with a caddy, place kicked his ass.

Lopez is a sincerly nice guy. one year He gave us passes and had us meet him in the morning, then He took my daughter around the driving range and introduced her to everyone. Kinda shit where your thinking did that really just happen.

What happened to Duval happened to Ian Baker Finch as well. IBF won a British Open then a year or 2 later he started hitting the ball sideways, sad to watch. Because of his win he obviously got a 10 year exemption and every year was getting worse and worse from what i remember.
