What’s up guys. I just got a pair of EVS Axis knee braces and I’m just looking for some tips and tricks for first time knee brace wearers. Ways to get a better fit, prevent migration down your leg, etc.

Basically things you knee brace wearers wish you would’ve known when you first started wearing them.

Not really looking for negative reviews or people crapping I’m knee braces either.

TIA

Can’t really help with the fit question, as EVS size medium braces have been great for me aside from me having tiny calves and large quads! I changed my hyperextension lockout from the 0° to either 10° or 15° because it felt safer for me to prevent hyper extension. Definitely get a solid pair of knee brace socks! Your legs will thank you. EVS has a nice set with checkerboard grip strips on the contact patches to prevent them sliding down. Also, I believe Asterisk (in collaboration with Virus base layers) has a product called their Zero G knee brace pants. Basically a compression pant with two sets of legs, and the knee braces go in between them so that the pants hold the braces up. Never used em but always wanted them, never could justify the like $90 for them though

Get the ZeroG pants or a knee sleeve.

I wear basic spandex/running pants, and have EVS sleeves I put on over those. I keep them down to almost my heel when pulled up my leg - put the braces on, then fold the bottom part up over the braces.

The braces hold down the top part of those sleeves and let you put upward pressure on the brace when the sleeve is folded up and over.

I bought some under armoir compression pants but I’ll have to check out those zero g pants.

Any tips for riding with them?

1. Asterisk Zero G pants for sure. They do an awesome job of keeping your braces from slipping down. Also makes getting your moto pants on easer. I'd get a couple pairs. If you grip the bike with your knees like you're supposed to, you'll wind up wearing a hole in them and you're pants. Also, the velcro on them is pretty strong so watch out when you wash them. They'll ruin a mesh jersey. I know from experience. haha

2. Don't be afraid to add or remove padding so they fit correctly. Wear them around the house for 10-15min after you make adjustments looking for hot spots. I wouldn't spend time at the track making adjustments. If they don't fit or are uncomfortable, you'll stop wearing them.

3. When you put on your braces, start with the strap just above your calf. This helps get them nice a secure. Then adjust the other straps.

I use under armour 3/4 length heat gear leggings under mine. I tried the socks and they always slid down. I have CTI braces so I don't have anything to mention about the EVS specifically. The strap just under the knee is what will hold the brace in place. the other straps just hold it against your leg, I used to run the other straps too tight and I think it contributed to migration.

You think having the other straps too tight made the brace migrate? I would think them being too loose would make that happen

look at the shape of your leg. generally it gets smaller as it goes down with the exception of the calf muscle just below the knee. With the top two straps and bottom strap too tight as it moves it will slowly pull the brace down. I'm not saying keep them loose but if you cinch them super tight it will cause the brace to move out of position down your leg.

Also you should always start with the upper calf strap first. I put the brace over my knee and bend my knee to make sure the hinge is aligned correctly then I straighten my leg and start with the upper calf strap then lower strap and upper two straps.

I tighten the straps below the knee a bit more. It doesn't obstruct movement or is uncomfortable, your calf will hold up the brace.

Knee braces are 5x more effective if you use the anti-rotation stap to your boot. They prevent you from rotating your lower leg out.

Unfortunately EVS braces (at least the two sets I’ve owned) don’t come with anti rotation straps and I don’t believe they offer them...currently the problem I’m in as I had a crash that rotated my left tibia causing what they called a “spiral fracture”. No good! But I’d rather nurse a broken bone than a blown out knee...

I have the EVS braces and I use Mobius Compression Knee Sleeves and Hockey Tape over the braces.

The Knee Sleeve are a little hot, but it works like a charm.

My EVS Axis sports have a 5th neoprene compression strap in between the lower two straps but it tends to bunch up under the upper calf strap. Anyone else have this issue?

I had the same issue, I got some velcro from Home Depot and ran a piece on the outside of the compression strap then a piece on the inside of the regular strap. Worked for me.

So you're saying you stack the two straps on top of each other and secure with velcro? Wouldn't you want all the straps independent of each other? I'm trying to avoid the straps being stacked on top of each other.
