Seems like most motocross fans who were into FMX stopped paying attention when Pastrana moved on from the sport which seemed to coincide with the decline of X Games.

Loved FMX in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Loved FMX in the late 90s and early 2000s.
That's also around the time that progression in pure FMX terms slowed down. Now with the quarterpipe and whip comps it's still fun to watch, but it's not the same as watching the first guys figure out backflips or anything like that

I don't think Pastrana not competing in FMX killed XGames as a Whole. He still competed in Rallycross for a couple years. Maybe hardcore moto people stopped paying attention. However we know the moto crowd isn't even big enough to keep motocross races from being cut off for another sport on tv. Besides Pastrana, I think straight moto people stopped watching once it became its own thing. With tricks that your average racer can't do. It made it unrelatable to most. Much like the average person can't relate to motocross because they don't ride at any level. So they don't watch even though its awesome.
