At the beginning of the year, Reed kept getting second because that was his strategy - to take it easy and hope James fell down enough times to hand the title to him. Never mind that he'd tried that strategy in '05, '06 and '07 and it hadn't worked with either RC or James. Then he blew the race at Seatlle (exposing the gaping hole in his strategy - that it's real hard to race 19 other guys every week and avoid having a bad race). So he came back at SLC and tried to race Stewart without doing any better at that than he's done since 2002, and his strategy was to blame Chisholm for the fact that he lost. When he got to Vegas, he had to win the race with Stewart 4th or lower - so his strategy was to take the easy way and try to take Stewart out. Well, that strategy didn't work either.

All of which proves one thing - guys who want to take the easy road don't usually win titles. If you want to win a title, you have to beat the other 19 guys on the track. But that's the hard strategy to use, and if you're Chad Reed, you want to find another, easier way

Congrats to both riders. They both got what they deserved.

You are a fuckwit mate, do you realise you just backhanded everyone who starts on that line every week except James with that attempt at just 1 more piece of Reed hate.

Oh, one other minor hole in Reed's Vegas strategy - if he'd been successful and managed to blatantly take Stewart out (the only way his strategy would work), then the AMA and FIM would have DQed him. I guess his backup strategy would be to whine about the AMA and FIM. That proves Reed's strategic genius - he had both a primary strategy and a secondary one. Too bad he didn't go out and win the race and hope for the best. But that's hard. Cheap shots and whining are much easier.

So Stewart put in the most work and tried the hardest and, in the end, rode the smartest. And he won. Reed notched it back and dialed it down and, SLC aside, didn't really challenge Stewart, so he lost and he complained about how unfair it all is. And what's worse, he hung around with DeCoster enough to make him whine too. Is that the Whine Flu?

That is some really stinky bait, even attacking Roger Decoster. Good to see that the "How to lose Friends and Irritate People" trophy on your mantle isn't gathering a lot of dust.

mmm i pretty sure Chad didn't want to 'take out' James, maybe just rattle his cage a little bit in the hope James would find the ground bye himself. Clearly it didn't work but i don't think a straight takeout was ever the plan.

I have to disagree. Reed made his move in the fastest turn on the track, which means that even a minor tip-over for Stewart could wind up being bad enough to put him pretty far back, and there was a higher likelihood that Stewart would kill the engine if he fell there. That was Reed's best shot, once Reed decided not to race for the win because that was too hard.

If Chisholm's little bump on Reed at SLC was an attempted takeout like Reed and Decoster said, then Reed's moves on Stewart at both SLC and Vegas were motorized assult and battery by comparison. Not that I think Reed's move that that terrible in itself, I'm just applying Reed and Decoster's estimate of takeout proportions to Reed himself.

But all's well that ends well. Stewart raced like there was no tomorrow, Reed raced like he decided to race, Stewart won 11 races, Reed won 3 and, for Reed, there really IS no tomorrow in 2009.

Holt shit give it a rest Carnac, you have no idea what Chad's strategy was, you have no idea how hard he tried and you have no idea what's in his head as a matter of fact just fuck you, that was for Chad.

Now, THAT would be a dillema for me. But as competitive as James is, if Reed showed up with a RM250 at one round, Stewart would probably show up with a YZ250 at the next one. That would have made the season even more fun.

I dont think your going to get many to agree with your post here but for what its worth your spot on. People got so wrapped up in that damn KC shit and for what? Does anyone really think Reed was going to catch and pass James? Give me a fuckin break people. What KC did under no circumstances determined the outcome of that race.
Then the last two weeks you have Reed who without a doubt tries to take out James and there is no problem with that? Why because CR, RD, and Suzuki are golden boys? So many on here are amazing. I say appreciate what you saw this year. And thats one bad ass son of a bitch kick ass and take names along the way.
Im sure most of you cant do that though you would rather sit around and bitch about Kyle Chisholm and Larry Brooks.

Congrats James you are the fucking man!!!!!

Who knows what really went on in Reed's head, but unless you are wearing Reed colored glasses and a tin foil Suzuki hat it is hard not to agree with your Wh's post.

One racer waited to see if the Championship would come to him and one racer went after the Championship creating his own opportunity. The guy who went after it won.

I think Bubba really exposed Reed's wait and see strategy in the main when he slowed several times to let Reed go by and Reed wouldn't. On his podium interview Reed even said he wanted to ride behind Bubba.

Last week, when interviewed after the race (RacerX & TWMX) Reed made comments that he was satisfied riding behind Bubba waiting for him to make a mistake. Reed has not only been riding this way, he has been saying it.

To bad for the Reed fans, but if your boy wants to win next year he better take a page from RC's book and go back, regroup and figure out how to ride FASTER than the other guy, not ride around hoping the "Other guy" will crash or have bad luck.

Funny how many people say you can't possibly know what Chad's strategy was or what he was thinking and yet everyone knew what KC's strategy was and what he was thinking.

Interesting....
