Posted this in old school section but thinking it's more appropriate here. Any idea if this is fixable without polishing? Just showed up out of nowhere. Tried bronze wool with some wd-40 but it's not removing it.

Try mag 1 wheel cleaner and red scotch brite. The mag 1 is an etcher. It takes off a super thin layer along with dirt.

I don't think it's dirt. It's like a stain in the aluminum. I'll give it a try on a small area. Thanks

Doesn't that remove the clear coat? I don't want a polished frame nor do I want to disassemble the whole bike. Just trying to figure out what it is and how to remove it short of sanding the whole thing down.

If it is clear coated then the staining is under the clear coat. Clear coat resto means removing, cleaning and recoating. Frames aren't clear coated. Honda recommends a red scotchbrite to clean up the frame. What part is that?

The swingarm on that bike isn’t clear coated which is why it’s “stained”. You had some hard dirt on there and it etched the aluminum. All you need is some simple green and a scotch bright pad and it’ll come out. I have to do it on my 18 yz450 every other ride due to one of the tracks local has some acidic like dirt.

Bike is cleaned after every ride. I don't let dirt sit on it overnight. Could it be defective from Yamaha?

I buffed it again with the bronze wool and it's not as bad but I can still see it a little. I'll probably just leave it at this point and put away the microscope. Ha!

Doesn't matter, raw aluminum can corrode from moisture in the air.

Yeah , this is totally aluminum oxide corrosion . Which is aluminum reaction to the atmosphere . Which cannot be avoided . Nothing serious jut use some aluminum cleaner and some scotch brite . You can;t really hurt it ....
