Don't know Gage and the list of injuries are real and ugly. Wish him a good speedy recovery.

Unfortunately this is becoming a trend. I think Reed got super lucky. If Chiz wouldn’t have checked up as much as he did what would have been the outcome of Reed getting cased in that position? No bueno. Personally I’ve seen enough and am over it. I’d rather watch an outdoor race any day over SX anyways. Mud, snow, whatever. Heal up Gage. You’re a gnarly dude

Good lord fellas. I thought it was common knowledge that when the extent of the injury is unknown but appears severe the use of a backboard is to prevent any movement to keep a spinal bone fragment from touching the spinal cord and causing paralysis. Isn’t it better safe than sorry? When I broke 5 vertebrae I was trying to get up and thankfully there were like 4 people holding me down not letting me get up

Totally cringed when I saw he wasn't C spine stabilized and head was flopping around sitting on the mule. What a joke.
Spinal immobilization protocols have changed. Also, his head flopping around isn't an indication that he needs his C spine stabilization.

I'd like to know more about these changed protocols you're talking about- and I'm aware that isn't an indication, just the fact he was sitting up and letting him move his head around like that was disturbing. Get him on a board when he's on the ground immediately until you know it's safe. Seems pretty obvious.
Full spinal immobilization/spine board protocols have changed. And the stadium floor is such a dynamic scene, many protocols become suggestions rather than hard rules anyway. There are medics, orthopedic surgeons and ER trauma docs making the initial assessment on the floor... they know what they’re doing.

You're fine. Barnett is going to take a little break so that he can think about his posting habits, while we do an advanced study on trolling methods.

I'm surprised it took this long. Google his screen name, he's been booted from more than 1 board.

update from his Mom social media: (from yesterday)

We are overwhelmed by the love, support and concern flooding our phones for our boy @geezyyy__ . Gage had a procedure last night that was supposed to help with the bleeding in his liver and Kidney. Unfortunately his levels are still dropping. He is being evaluated this morning and deciding when they will be needing to take him in to do a more extensive surgery. We are blessed to have a solid team of doctors that are caring for him.

This is from nremt.org or the National Registry.
Patients for whom spinal motion restriction should be considered include those who have sustained blunt trauma through a high-energy mechanism and any of the following:

Altered level of consciousness
Drug or alcohol intoxication
Inability to communicate
Spinal column pain and/or tenderness
Neurologic complaints (e.g., numbness or motor weakness)
Anatomic deformity of the spine
Distracting injury (injuries so severely painful that neck examination is unreliable, [e.g., severe thoracic trauma, long bone fractures, crush injuries, large burns])

He definitely sustained blunt trauma but that would be hard to determine on the track unless whoever hit him stuck around to say he hit him pretty hard.. Many times we determine that by doing a strip and flip. Again tough to do during a race. It was a decision made by medical professionals and it proved to be correct but disturbing to see.
Very best of luck to this young man, it appears he has a ways to go.

Watch from the timestamp a couple times knowing the injuries sustained and tell me as a pro FF/EMT that you would cart him off the same way.

Anyone who says the way he was handled is ok is wrong. I could care less about what new protocols/practices are.

He was allright, just no filter, governor, no second thought. Couldn't just let it go. But at least he wasn't an ass kiss.

Hopefully Gage who’s right now fighting for his life will be able to give his opinion on the whole matter in an interview when he’s actually able to think straight

I think it’s time to end this. Maybe the docs on the scene saw something that made them want to get him out ASAP. From the list of injuries, it’s probably good that they did.

I don’t want/need any smooching from anyone other than my girlfriend. But keeping it below raging *hole level is good.

By the looks of it they had a blood oxygen sensor on his finger, maybe his numbers were dipping low and they decided to jet
