What's everyone wearing for hip protection? Seems like when ever I go down, I am always bruising my hips. I had a pair of protective shorts before but the way the pads were placed made no sense and minimized movement. Any good recommendations?

Alpinestars Comp Pro shorts seems to have padding in all the right places for me.

I also use the inner liner of Alpinestars or Fox MTB shorts occasionally.

I wear the G-Form bike shorts. They are super comfortable and work well.

Had the sharp end of a foot peg land on my hip after a bike flipping & body contorting crash. You could tell it was a foot peg because all the teeth made puncture wounds into my hip. I also wasn’t able to walk for about a week because of the soreness and the swollen contusion. The damage to my hip would have been much worse had I not been wearing a pair of Troy Lee 5705 protective compression type pant. They also make similar shorts but I prefer the pants so I don’t have to wear knee brace socks. They not motion obstructive at all, washer/dryer ready, and have Shockdoctor pads on the outer hips and other padding kind of like bicycle short liners. I really recommend them.

The Alpinestars Sequence Pro short is the best I’ve used. The chamois is straight out of their mountain bike shorts and do not restrict movement at all. The hip pads extend over your waist which is nice too. They are a thin stretchy mesh material so no issue with heat either.

I wear rhenTLD 5605 Protective short. It feels, exactly like wearing bicycle shorts under your gear. In other words, I don't know that I'm wearing them!

My man have I got the solution for you. I have a total hip replacement and the "moto" shorts above don't really protect the hip joint at all times, because depending on how much you bend your legs the padded areas wont always cover it. Also I found the padding of most "moto" geared shorts to be a bit light considering the consequences for me.

Knox defender shorts are what you really want. They have 2 pads that slide over each other as you bend your leg so it really protects the hip and allows free movement. It also has firmer, removable pads as well. I take out everything but the hip pads. The key is the pads that slide over each other, nobody else has this. I did so so much research and searching before I found these. Thick firm pads but still light and comfy enough that I dont even mountain bike without them.
