Mobius for the win. Sooooooo comfy and solid.
The rep that helped me said that getting insurance to cover them is tough, and for sure make sure that your doc doesn't use the word motocross in the prescription.
#1 You must adjust the stops well short of hyper extension.
#2 Using the anti rotation strap causes your ankle pivot and knee pivot axis to remain PARALLEL. This means any twisting on your knee is reacted up to your hip. You whole leg twists.
These two taken together TOTALLY change how the brace works. It results in your leg and knee being held in a strong position so that when you take a hit you knee bends and the twisting moment is transferred AROUND your knee.
Ask yourself this. How come a small hit with your knee in the wrong position (leg locked with a twisting moment on your lower leg) will snap your ACL and a massive hit with your knee bent will do nothing? Why? It is because the knee brace works best not by “making you knee stronger’ (as your surgeon is thinking) but by managing your leg and knee geometry to keep the knee in a strong and flexible position and minimizing twisting moments on the knee.
I still can not fathom how most knee brace MFGs have not figured this out. Use an anti rotation strap with relatively rigid boots like SIDI and you are doing a TON to make your knee a lot tougher. You simply can not understand how much different a knee brace is when locked into a rigid boot. Once you try it you will understand.
Now...nothing is free. I imagine that using a brace like this might make other injuries (hip, femur) more likely, but I have ZERO doubt it toughens up the knee a lot.
