Ok fellas, looking for some Imput. At the the end of December I crash hard at milestone mx and ruptured my acl and broke off some cartilage on my femor. I just has surgery on Monday and had a complete cadaver acl put in my knee. Now I want hear some options on the next set of knee braces. During the crash I was wearing a older set of asterisk cells. The brace broke during the crash probably save my knee from even more damage. But now I want to see if my insurance will help with the cost of a new set. Going to follow up with my ortho doc on that. But I have heard mixed things about cti braces. I also know that pod, mobius, and leatt can be covered by insurance. Let me know your guys thoughts and experiences.

CTi custom braces are by far the best you can get. If the insurance covers them, get them.

I have had both Pod (K4) and Mobius braces and both are good. I have no experience with Leatt.

When I tore my MCL, I got DonJoys on prescription (with the added kneecap pad / cover). I have now been using them for 10 years and have no complaints. I haven't ever tried anything else, but they are comfortable and it feels weird to ride without them.

Pod has great customer service; their braces didn't fit my legs and they sent me some replacement parts to try and correct the fitting. In the end, I purchased Mobius and they fit my legs better (my pods are for sale on the VitalMX listing page). You ask 100 people and you are going to get 100 different answers; the best thing is to try the braces on at a dealership or find riders at the track who will let you try theirs. You will be able to tell a lot about how the braces fit just by putting on pants, boots, and sitting on your bike on the stand.

That's what I'm leaning towards. I see my ortho next week so hopefully my insurance will play ball. Another off road pro told me the pattela coverage on the cti was not good. He'd had his bars jam in between the knee cap and the pattela cup of the brace. Could have been a fluke thing but still makes me wonder.

Yeah the old patella was not good, the new is better and covers the top.

I see now. Looks like it's overall a much better design.

I've had your exact surgery in both knees and I swear by cti2's, insurance paid after my Dr. signed off on them. Custom fit.

I am soon to be in the same boat. I am going to request some CTI's as well.

Another vote for Mobius here. I like them because they also offer good protection of the entire knee area. I've gone down a few times where my knee has been trapped between the bike and the ground (on hard packed dirt) and I've not even had a bruise afterwards.

Their customer service is also excellent. A buddy of my had one of the cables snap. He contacted them and they got back to him instantly offering him a free replacement part or better yet if he sent them in they would completely refurb them for free (which is what he did). They came back looking brand new.

No fun at all. The asterisk did there job but I want something more. My ortho said if I was not wearing braces I would be replacing mcl, acl, pcl and possibly more. He said with he violence of the impact it did its job. It did break but stopped most of the force. Just don't want it to happen again.

Do they lock out before hyper extension. What was your recovery time before riding again.

The thing is you don't know how good a brace really is until its put to an extrem test. I had lots of get off with my old asterisk cells but never a super hard impact causing extreme hyper extension to my legs until now. Braces worked but still allowed my acl to rupture.

True, I was just commenting on the general protective nature of the mobius braces. Some braces I've worn in the past seem to only focus on trying to prevent hyper extension and don't offer as much protection from regular falls if that makes sense? Ideally you want both, which I think Mobius achieves. You can also adjust where the mobius braces lock-out to prevent hyper extension.

The Leatt knee braces are certified medical devices. You can run them through insurance

But like people are mentioning. If you can't get the custom molded CTi:s, Mobius and Pod are great off the shelf alternatives.

I used the Pod K4 braces for 2 seasons and they are still like new, it's crazy how durable and well built they are. They have also saved my knees a couple of times when i have tweaked them. Now i have Mobius braces and i like them too. They are light, the "boa" system with the cables is great with locking down the brace to the leg and they protect the knee cup well. The only minus is that they are hot.

How do you get fitted and order the custom molded CTIs through insurance with a prescription? When I google cti braces I cannot find these ones...

You have to have a serious knee injury. Then your orthopedic surgeon will write you prescription to get fit from a authorized ossur/cti rep. Then your
braces will be made. You can purchase these your self and pay cash for them but they will run you around $3000 for a set.

Yeah I was wearing POD braces, the high end ones too. I ruptured my PCL/ MCL/ ACL. Not sure the brace did anything Lol. Either way I would like some that are custom fitted to me, I have big legs/ knees so something that would be custom would be a better advantage.

Thank you. So stupid when people say this. You see knee injuries all the time. Broken femor is rare and proving the brace cause it is even more difficult.

+1 CTI. They are very comfortable. There is also a refurbish probgram where they repain, fix hinges and new straps. I do it every 2 seasons.

Yeah they have adjustable stops. About 7 months and I raced harescrambles at around 9 months. I'm 53 and was a regular at the gym and therapy. Im a little over a year out now and I would say almost 100%.

That kind of the ime frame I figured, 6-12,months. Did you have them replace the acl with a cadaver or did they take from the pattela tendon. My ortho MD said the cadaver route was the best way to go. Faster recovery with better results. Also you are not creating two points t that need to heal....... Now i can only hope I got a acl that was from someone that could run fast and jump high... Lmao.

I blew my ACL. Surgeon (rides dirt bikes) told me that a knee brace won't help with ACL protection. I bought a CTI which is nice but I can see it's a waste of money for the ACL. The way an ACL tears - you can't really limit that movement with a brace, the upper part of the brace still has mobility by the way your skin can move even with it strapped tight.

I ride now with knee pads, FWIW.
