Hotels in Assen are already booked on Expedia and a few other sites. I am willing to drive 2 hours each way to see the spectacle, I am not a party animal and really just love watching the races. I like driving in places I have never seen to take in the scenery. Far as battlefields go, is there any cool sites in the Netherlands for WW1 and WW2?

Yes you can visit the war museum in Overloon (ww2 museum), there is an old jew camp in Westerbork from the ww2 (15 minutes from Assen and is a museum and still in origin state). Both worth to visit.

Camp Vught National Memorial… Factory Kawasaki is located in this area wouldn't surprise me one bit if Tomac & Co burn some laps over there… it's just in the middle between Amsterdam and Eersel / Lommel etc. 50 min by car both directions… Amsterdam and Rotterdam 1 hour by train.

Cool to see interest so early, will be trying to round up some friends to make the trip this year.
Can’t offer any direct advise other than don’t worry about the language barrier, most speak better English than we do

Like many of the Dutchies already mentioned: Amsterdam is not what it used to be.
It became a tourist trap..
Fly in, be the Amsterdam tourist for a day or two but for race weekend stay in Groningen.
Pretty sure some of you will like the easy going vibe of Groningen better than Amsterdam with all the tourists.

Looking more into staying Groningen for at least the weekend, probably will do Amsterdam for a day or 2. How close does the train to Assen get you to the track? Will there be shuttles from the station to the track? What would the cost be of 2 days back and forth on the train as well?

As someone who's been to Amsterdam a handful of times I fully support this plan.

I've found that 3 days in Amsterdam is perfect. Get some good eats, drink some good coffee, smoke some weed, eat some truffles, and hit up the Van Gogh museum (among others but the Van Gogh one is top notch).

Then roll out to Groningen. Way more relaxed.

Groningen - Assen is a 20 minute train ride. About $15,- for a 2 way ticket, around $30,- for the weekend.
If you're with a couple of people might as well rent a car in Groningen.
Train station to the track is a 5mile walk so not the best option.
During the TT MotoGP race weekend they run shuttle buses from the train station to the track, I'm not sure if they will run 'm for the MXdN also.

The hotel prices are ridiculous at the MXON weekend. So maybe it is worth it to rent a car and have a hotel on 30-60 min distance. Or even better, rent a camper and get to the camping, where the real party is

No problem, didn't know there was a track at Arnhem, just remember it from the WW2 film about the paratroopers who landed there to secure the bridge over the Rhine but ended up getting massacred by the German's!

Amsterdam is a must, but also the night time euro atmosphere at the track is unmissable, I would say you want 2 nights in amsterdam and 2 nights at the track. Anyone coming that far (from US) who hasn't been to the UK before should take advantage of how low the £ is a the moment.

I would imagine most flying in would be hiring a car and you can get a ferry across to the UK return for around $250 Harwich to Rotterdam

If I could reccomend a 10 day trip it would be 5 days in the UK, 2-3 days in amsterdam, 2-3 days at the track.

I am British so maybe biased but i've travelled alot! I still think the UK is one of the sickest countries in the world (despite bloody brexit)

I thought about checking out London. I am a youngblood and this will be my first time in Europe. To see everything I want to see in Britain I would need a century. I might just reserve this trip for Holland and possibly Germany. The next time they do Nations in Britain that will be a MUST, might do a month and check out Ireland, Scotland, N. Ireland, Wales, and England. Might try to go see the Isle of Man in the coming years as well.
