Ok... NAMC will post this little bit of info about the visiting Batmobile! Then it's back to Holigan's Toyota Yamahauler project...

Ray, our body guy at North American Muscle Cars, started this Batmobile build waaay back in '92 when he found a rare $300 swap-meet find -an authentic 1955 Ford Lincoln Futura - his wife (at the time) called it "a worthless rolling heap of scrap metal" but in his mind it was full of visionary possibilities! So this body is a real-deal metal body 100% sized recreation made in the image of Hollywood's famous TV Series Bat car. Many a lonely hour of English wheel work and custom fab.

These projects start and stop, start and stop, wait, hold, get covered up with misc. storage junk, start and stop, and so it goes... The biggest one time expense was the formed clear plastic front and rear facing wind screen bubble windows. It's important to mention that the the hood and rear contoured panels are formed from molds pulled off the original. So this is not one of the 1/3 smaller sized fiberglass kits, although those are very cool too!

Ray did report that his wife left, but the Batmobile stayed put, waiting! Evil *I know, I know... that's not funny! Wink

As some of you might have read, I have bought land and started plans on a moto themed restaurant in Garland TX. I have been spending time looking at ways to mount the bikes on the walls, and other ways to display them, when it hit me that I really need a Yamahauler. I started researching Yamahaulers and found one that Steve Miles at North American Muscle Cars in Portland Oregon had built for his personal use.

I contacted Steve and learned that he restores and races vintage YZs, and his wife Colleen did all the graphics for the van. Since he really gets it, I ask that he find a ’79 Toyota long bed and build me a Yamahauler. I am planning to park it in the middle of the restaurant with one of Glover’s OWs in the back. Below are some photos of the Toyota before any restoration or build out has begun. I will update as Steve and his team make progress (most of which will happen over the winter).

If you want to see more about Steve's Yamahauler, check out:

Car and Driver Magazine: Best Vintage Vans (Yamahauler included pg 12)

Dennis Gage: My Classic Car episode (10:16 into the episode is Yamahauler)

I’m new to Vital and stumbled upon this thread. When is the restaurant going to open? I’m on the west side of the metroplex and will definitely come check it out.

It’s not in great shape, but decent enough that it deserved to be saved. The “YAMAHA” and the black stripes are embossed. It has a wood frame on the back. I got it out of the basement of a building that used to be a Yamaha dealer. There is also a few original old “Yamahauler” decals there. They are red and about 12” long.

I finally got to see our project truck in person today for the first time. Steve and Colleen are making progress:

We decided to go with the 1980 Yamaha black more square logo vs the '74 so it closer matches the '80 OW that will be in the bed of the truck.

Looks like they have about a week's worth of work remaining Laughing

Coming together... You know... the normal Joe has no idea what is involved in vehicle restoration... When will the body work end!? That's the question! Good news boys! We are going to the paint booth NEXT WEEK! Lets have a cheer for Yamaha Yellow! We also will be tinting the bed liner to be Yamaha Yellow! We've researched bed anchor bolts for securing up to two bikes in the bed. Our project deadline for this Yamahauler Truck is "Summer" when the restaurant is built, staffed and open! Would love some info on how the building plans are rocking on!? RSVP!

the best thing i get since Al Gore invented the internet is everyday i am amazed by what average chumps in the world are capable of.

Im proud of myself when I get my numbers just right on my plates and this guy is recreating Batmobile body panels on a wheel

Wow, we've been busy! When the sun comes out the local customers swarm! (Not complaining!) The Yamahauler Truck is now painted a FABULOUS Yamaha VMX yellow with matching bed liner, and black interior spaces. The guys are cutting and buffing, polishing and reviewing and so it goes! Here's great colorful photos for your eyes!
