Was going to comment about the carburetor selection, but see that you've already picked up a Keihin.

On a 2005 I had, I liked the Mikuni better than the Keihin after I had the squish corrected. Made a post on TT about it: https://thumpertalk.com/forums/topic/1191880-carburetor-heresy-i-like-m…

But, I have recently installed a STIC into a 2014 KTM 150SX and it made a very noticeable improvement in the top end/over rev. A PWK equipped with the STIC would probably be the best of both worlds on a CR250.

Hey Erik, did you stick with the same main/pilot/needle setting when installing the STIC? I've thought about getting one myself for my 150SX. Power on it is great as is, but like a more 125 style over rev. Currently running the PWK with JD jetting kit on my 18.
Mac-

My previous jetting was a 180 MJ/40 PJ/NECJ needle in 3rd clip. This ran very well, but could probably have been tweaked a little.

With the STIC, I was only able to do limited testing and found it ran best with the N3EW, 190 MJ, and 52 PJ - these were all I had on hand but this was way too lean. I think I'll end up somewhere aroundd 195-198 MJ, 52 PJ, and will try the N3EJ and N3EW needles for best performance. mog's thread on TT has a lot of good info.

Even with suboptimal jetting, it its immediately apparent how much more power it makes on top. Also more responsive in the lowend/midrange. I also bought it specifically because I wanted it to rev out better, like the 125 models, but with more power. Not disappointed so far and not even finalized. When I'm all done, we can meet up and you can try it out.

Thanks for the advice, I’m actually looking at getting the STIC for my keihin. I’ve read a lot of good reviews about them but I’ve just got to find out which size is the best suited to my bike/carby and find a supplier that will ship to Australia. Who did you purchase yours through?

Sweet! Sounds good. I'm running a 190 main 45 pilot with JD blue needle in the 3rd clip. Also just put in a Vforce 4 that I have not rode with yet. Really wanting more over rev like a 125. Sounds like the STIC might be the ticket!

Bought mine through the inventor at http://www.sticsupertorque.com/

Derek Harris on here also sells them.

Lots of info on tuning them in on Thumpertalk.

Very nice 250 build. Can I ask where you located the Honda Racing clutch cover? I've been looking for one to fit my '05.

Thanks.

The frame was soda blasted and then lightly rubbed over with a scotchbrite pad. I’m yet to start the engine, unfortunately I’m struggling at the moment to find any time to work on it but when I do I will soda blast the whole engine before I pull it apart.

It’s been over a month since my last post but was finally able to find some time to get some work done. Been really busy and actually been doing a bit of riding. Unfortunately I had a transmission issue with the 125, a small part of a broken clutch plate had found its way in to the gears and it’s done a bit of damage. So the 125 cases are split waiting for the gears to come from Japan.

Hopefully this weekend I’ll be able to clean and split the cases on the 250 so we can expect everything and put the wossner piston in it.

I’m planning to race both bikes at a big 2 stroke race end of October so we’ve got our work cut out to get both bikes running and jetted right with the keihin airstykers

I went and picked the suspension up for the 250 and I’m super happy with how they look. The kashima coating came out nice and dark and looks even better than I thought. the suspension has been installed and is ready to go.

Also got time over the weekend to pull apart the oem wheels and turn down/ polish the hubs. They have come up really good and hopefully be able to lace up a fresh set of spokes and black excel rims this week

Here’s a few pics of the 125 transmission. While I got the motor out on the 125 I decided to give the frame a good clean up.

Last week I got an exciting package in the mail. 2 x stic metering blocks. I finally bit the bullet and decided to get one for each bike. I’m really excited to see if they live up to the hype. I received 2 x N3EJ needles with them. Anyone willing to share what jetting they found the best with the stic on either the 125 or 250.

Wheels are laced up with new set of spokes, excel rims, bearings and a set of Dunlop’s. Carbs are together with the STIC metering blocks and new wiring loom so the tps can be hooked up.

Cases are split and clean. Will post some more photos tomorrow.

Big weekend spent in the shed working on the bike with my father. Got both motors assembled in the bikes and running. They both sound really crisp on the stand with the keihin airstryker carbs with STIC metering blocks. Really looking forward to riding them and seeing how they perform. One thing we noticed is the 125 didn’t want to try foul a plug when left idling for too long like it did previously with the mikuni.

Planning on running the 250 in this week and race the both of them on the weekend if all goes to plan. Hoping that the jetting is very close and will only take some minor tweaking.

125
Needle: N3EJ middle clip
Main Jet: 188
Pilot Jet: 50

250
Needle: N3EJ middle clip
Main Jet: 190
Pilot Jet: 50

Both are running keihins off a 2006 YZ250 with the tps connected.
