Twin turbo 3.5 gas engine in the Transit hauls ass, even with 4 strokes in the back. The 19 model will have the 10 speed trans.

I got the Ram Promaster 136 highroof and super happy with it over my old 2006 sprinter.

I would highly recommend anything but a sprinter, the ford transit is a great choice and I am on my second one. The promaster is good but in my opinion it is a cheaper built version of the transit.

LOL. Ok. And what's so wrong with a Sprinter, Mr. Opinion?

The Transits are great vans. The 3rd gen Sprinters will be built in a new factory in South Carolina. I personally think the Sprinters are the best looking vans of the bunch and, so far, mine has been problem free. Parts are surprisingly cheap and there are tons of aftermarket upfit components available for the Sprinter that aren't yet available for the Transit. If you're just looking for a barebones moto van, the Transit is a good choice. No 4 wheel drive option though unless you go with a Quigley, which have a loooong waiting list are are pricey.

Over priced, no body wants to work on them, difficult to get parts for. But hey, what do I know, Mr. internet tough guy?

I have a sprinter crew 170. Best vehicle I’ve ever had by a mile. It’s quality through and through. Warranty is amazing. Can extend it out for 8+ years. Not sure where you can go wrong.

Thank you for taking the time, as arduous as it may have been, to explain your assertion. Was that so hard?

Cost/value is relative and I have experienced none of the other problems you describe, but perhaps that's just me. There are also two generations of Sprinters and a variety of different domesticated versions of those generations spanning over 20 years, so there's a pretty wide spectrum of "Sprinters" available, new and used.

All the Blutec sprinters seem to be dying (IE: exhaust system) around 100K. Seems like everyone unloads them around then.

I have a transit. Super happy with it so far. 7500 miles and fully built out. The thing rips. 15MPG.

Transit.

More reliable mechanically that a Sprinter, less expensive by almost 20 grand, and most importantly, more cup holders.

I went Transit, mainly because it was more affordable and my new F250 4x4 sucked as a moto rig. lol

Correct. The Bluetec Sprinter and it's ridiculous diesel emission system is junk and should be avoided.

Will you throw in those badass shades ?

If you maintain those sprinter vans they last. I used to wash, Park, and do Saturday pick ups in them for UPS. The one I drove had 600,000+ Miles and never really had any hiccups....

I hope that is true. But you definitely need to take scrutiny to a new level when inspecting a used Sprinter.

I picked up a used 2014 with 125k on the clock from a used car lot. They bought it at auction....was a fleet vehicle before that. It had a few dings but overall looked pretty clean, sounded smooth, etc. I mean come on, a diesel with 125k is barely broken in right???

Um, yeah. I ended up throwing a rod a couple thousand miles after I bought it.
(it was the OM651 engine......the 2.1L inline-4 with that Siamese twin-turbo setup).

And yes, it had oil.

I'm not saying Sprinters are prone to this. But the consequences (repair costs) are definitely more severe with a Sprinter. So do your homework.

I don't know if modern gasoline powered cars have this but US market Sprinters have all the "limp-mode" BS. So if you get a CEL and ignore it, the vehicle will eventually go into limp mode. A regular scanner will not work to clear the code. After limp-mode is activated, you only get a few re-starts before the computer will simply not allow the vehicle to be started and you are forced to have it towed. So you have to treat every CEL scenario seriously.

I "made my bed" so now I have to amortize it. With my new factory re-man engine in place, I plan to drive the crap out of this thing and try to get some use out of it. It's not worth what I have into it anymore.

Like many German cars, they will last forever, but they have zero tolerance for neglect. Make sure you can afford to look after it.

I'm still working to build mine out.

I've come across a few Sprinter's (I'm in the biz) and almost bought one. Luckily I did my research 1st. The Bluetech (and a lot of other diesel's on the market today) are bad news. Emissions and sulfur free fuel have ruined diesels. The old days of long long lasting engines is the old days, unless you know how to make them last (which is related to oil viscosity and emissions mods that will void your warranty).
