Craiglist Sachs/Hercules 7 speed

From MXA

MXA: Ancient history I know, but you could go over the Sachs deal again where you rode a seven-speed factory bike in the Trans-Am?

Frank: About mid-way through 1977 I was hired by Sachs-Hercules to help them develop a new bike for the USA market. The current bike needed a ton of work, but I was up for the challenge and they seemed to have pretty good funding for those days. We went to work and basically built a new bike from the ground up. We had swing arms made, numerous frame geometry changes to make the bike handle better, different suspension, different wheels/brakes, made the gas tank & seat combo, modified the engine through and through, basically it was a one-off prototype. Wow, pretty wild.

When I was working at Specialized Bicycles, Frank was working with them on some tire designs. Super-cool guy.

God I wish I was freakin rich.....

What a find regardless of condition, which seems great, what a find for anyone.
I hope it goes to a good home.

No, Doc. With a kid in college and another starting in the fall, it's not in the budget I'm not even going there.

Shoot, there was a fresh restored prime Mugen 360 on Craigs yesterday that the guy has brought down to about 7,500 (was on EBay for $9,500 and didn't sell), and passing on that is enough grief.

Happy to help out anyone far away who needs a pick up and storage, though.

I'd love to buy the darn thing, but I'd end up riding it and probably ruin it. Tell ya I'd love to have the 500 Kawi that Newmann just bought. That looks like a rip!

Yes Tiki, It's a seven speed. Hercules offered several models as seven speed gearbox's and they actually worked very well. My dad was a dealer for them.
