It may be too early for any ride or performance reports however if anyone has info on this bike it would be appreciated.

I'm circling the idea now as a good bike to replace my 2013 RMZ450 and 2004 200 KDX. I'd like to have one bike that does the tight stuff well but I can run the occasional moto with as also.

I'm thinking this one would be a good option.

thanks

I have a '15 model, essentially the same... I had a KDX 200 prior as well. The electric start is a thing of beauty. Power-wise, don't let the displacement fool you. They have excellent bottom-end to mid power. I ride in deep sand and with stock gearing / no power mods it will tractor through most anything while hauling my 185+ lb rear about. Where the bike could use improving IMO is with the front end diving under hard braking (lighter riders may fare better), and the tendency to push wide. Perhaps the '17 is improved in these areas (?) Also, the bike is tall in the rear. I put a Devol Transformer link in to adjust this and overall it's balanced things out. All-in-all, it's the best trail bike I've ever had, capable of double-duty. Yamaha reliability is a big plus.

I would like to try different triple clamps... I've been told 20mm helps with steering a good bit.

Train...good to hear from you ...long time no talk. I remember you from the old SX.com site.

Thanks for the information, I have done a lot of research on this and it backs what you're saying.

I am supposed to pick this bike up next week. I'll keep you posted.

Coming off of a KDX 200 the Beta 300cc electic start, oil injected X-Trainer may be a better option?

I can attest to the Beta XT listed above. I purchased one for my wife as her second bike and let me say it is super fun. It very lite feeling, nimble, and surprisingly handles very well. I find when pushed hard the suspension is a bit on the under sprung side and doesn't have enough dampening. The motor is like a diesel truck, not much over rev and a very mild 2-stroke hit, but just super flat linear torque all the way through the power band. It comes spec'd well with decent brake, nice wheelset, hydraulic clutch, GREAT tires and good build quality. Now it can be tuned to be more traditional 2-stroke but I cant speak to that any. I would say that if youre primarily riding tight, technical, rocky, slick etc this would be my choice of ride, however moto would be a tough call for it.

Thanks. The crew seemed to like the bike. Good news.

I did well in our Western Canadian Cross Country Series on a 15 250FX. I still consider it the best overall bike you can buy...

I have a 15' 250FX. Best bike I've ever owned (and I had a 13' RMZ450 set up for off road). It is a blast in the woods and does well on the track, too.

I talked with a guy at last TORCS race who had this bike with big bore. He loves the bike and rode faster than me. I kinda want to try one. I have a 08 yz250 with enduro mods. Electric start, 6 gears, and more controllable power sounds good.
