To him, it was just practice, and he didn't bother anybody.
It's really a non issue.

Pit Row
It appears that the results are official now, but it's hard to say that he got that second place finish fairly.

So the question for the AMA is: what penalty, if any, is applied to unintentional course deviations that lead to a rider's advancement? Undoubtedly Jason benefited from the 90 degree left turn, even if it resulted from a combination of adrenaline and competition. However, even if his action was unintentional, it may have impacted the results of several riders. Which brings on the ultimate hypothetical: where would Lawrence have finished if he followed the same route as Windham, Reed, Villipoto, etc?
The question is not "how do we penalize Lawrence", but "how did Lawrence's actions penalize other riders"? If the AMA had the ability to award Jason a second place finish but pull the points & move everyone else up a spot, that might solve the problem. Jason's not in the points race, so he's not going to cry about losing the 22 markers. And those behind who are chasing top 10 spots would probably be happy with their finishes.
it's safe to say that he only passed 1-2 guys the first lap, which counted him in 8th.
that's to say reed left the first corner in 10th. 10 guys on the ground.
was in 2nd. At this point it all doesn't matter and hopefully next week we can have a
race where there isn't all the controversy. Makes for good racing and good bench racing.
