Well said... Yes Mike had a dark time in his life, it was well documented on here and in other media outlets. Let's leave it alone and move on, nobody is perfect.

I will fire up my old phone later and find the pic of him at Daytona on the XR with the AMA official.
Cool story of him against mc on the XR, I've noticed he doesn't speak of it much, I would love to see any pics people have from his ims XR days.

I think it's pertinent to this discussion when we are watching videos of people some are labeling as a "hero".
But I guess at Vital if you were a really fast MX'er, the term hero gets thrown around rather easily no matter how shitty a human is behind the dirt bike.

little side story, last September i'm playing golf down in Ensenada Baja the day before my ride started and get a notification that Mike started following me on Instagram. i promptly shotgunned a beer and birdied the hole. cool times.

i'm game!

Mike came to a lot of Utah local races back in the day and was always the most stylish and hitting the biggest jumps that nobody knew were jumps. i remember he showed up one race in an open face custom painted helmet and just killed everyone. i think Seth even came with him to a few races back then.

Brooks ran out of fuel leading i figured from dust so thick you couldn't see the fender and hot as a 4 balled tomcat.

I recall guys running strings on filter covers like tampons and pulling them off mid moto.

I was there. I don't remember it being super dusty or hot.
They had cut a track out adding to the nite track,which was what it was,a little nite track.

We rigged strings on filter covers to pull while racing. I got pictures this ole crazy girl took that went with me on certain trips when she would come in handy.

I saw Mike's 250 Cagiva at the Seattle SX in 88 when I was 9 and thought it was the trickest bike ever. I finally found one 25 years later to restore. Following his career through Europe was very influential to me as a kid. I got to go to the Golden States in 92 and watch him on the Suzukis. When you look at the old YouTube videos you can really appreciate his strong style and aggression.

Mike seems like a genuine good dude and I'm glad to see him turn his life around. Keep up the good work Gunner!

I got a box of parts for that bike and half a dozen swingarms. They crack across the box section

I think there is a couple of unopened packets that came with the bikes,controls,sprokets and such in a shrink wrap.

hillbilly, you are correct. He was #38. Here's a picture I took just 30 years ago. :-) Sorry for the fuzziness on these. They are from the Kodak Disc camera. :-) LOL

Another European supercross in a velodrome, mid 90s Features Mike Healey on a CR125 also Guy Cooper, The Dogger, Colin Dugmore, Bader Maneh, (sp) and a few of the stunning bright pink tm's!!!! Well worth watching and shows Mike Healey as we all remember him as a great guy, worthy of the term hero....

Good Luck To Mike Healey , When he was in Europe he was well liked , It was BAD of Stanton to get involved in the title fight between Mike and Trampas , i always wondered how Stanton got a black eye on the Japanese GP podium , Stanton could of gone sick or just stayed out of it and the payback came in the 500 championship against Bayle so it was not a smart move on Stantons part , So Bayle got the clean sweep 250 , 500 , 250sx and Stanton never won the 500 championship which he always seemed destined for . In 1991 Mike got second / runner up spot in the world championship on the KTM 250 its something to be proud of not many riders can even get into the qualifying stage let alone come runner up in the World Championship with so little help from other KTM riders or KTM because KTM just didnt have much money back then to supply everything a GP rider needed i saw Trampas Parker changing his own tires during a 500 GP ( 360 KTM ) which is not fun after 45 minutes racing , In 1992 when he signed for Suzuki i knew he didn't stand a chance and knew all the good stuff and mechanics would go to Stefan it was like sticking your head in a lions mouth and hoping for the best , i guess it was the lure of the Suzuki . I think Mike had a hard time coming to Europe , he has made mistakes and so has everyone else , Best Wishes To Mike

I saw an interview with Healey when he was racing in Europe back in the day. One of the brightest, most well spoken motocross racers I've ever seen. So much different that today's racers who "can't thank" their sponsors and are "super pumped". I see he's killing it with his motocross school, that's awesome.

Peely .... Mike is a great dude it's awesome he cleaned up his act as a matter of fact when he first started the barber school stuff at Paul Mitchell actually went in and got my haircut by him and it was the coolest thing on earth because here's this guy that you so look up to as a racer and I knew about his struggles but I sat down and bench race with the dude and he told me stories about the GPS about when he punched Stanton in the eye for costing him the world title. He was a truly genuine dude that actually loves to cut hair and does an amazing job in his own style. But sitting down and bullshitting with a legend was so dam cool he was very down to earth and cool as hell.
