KX636 Trophy Bike

Edited Date/Time 11/21/2017 2:21am
My buddy and I have been working on this build for over two years now, in between work and other projects, but we are nearing completion and wanted to share the progress we've made! The goal was to make a very strong frame with a streetbike motor in it, so the bike can do more than just climb hills (we race and promote Pro motoclimb races). Essentially the trophy truck of dirt bikes. We want it to be a reliable rider, because nothing is more fun than taking a 100HP four cylinder bike on trail rides!

Everything on the bike is KX450/250 parts, except for the motor, electrical, and main frame. We built the frame out of 1.25x.090" DOM tubing, and everything is fully TIG welded. The geometry is nearly identical to the stock 2013 KX450, which will be interesting to feel once we start riding it. That tight geometry with such a large motor makes the build extra difficult, and we are very tight on room. The motor is from a 2005 Kawasaki ZX636.

It's a work in progress but it'll be a ton of fun when finished!

That's insane. I love it!

Wonder how much more will it weight than a stock 450.
Keep us posted!

Haha this would throw sand like none other! But we're trying to get this build rideable soon, so we're clicking it up a gear. Expect updates!

Here are a couple recent photos of the build. It runs and most of the frame is complete, we just need to complete running the wiring, water plumbing, airbox, suspension, and custom exhaust. That is Eric from Central Coast Machine, he's the main fabricator of the build.

Awesome! I've been waiting to see this thing for a while. Any chance the stock swingarm will go on and someone will ride it on a track like a regular dirtbike?

Holy balls! Major props for not only taking on a project like this, but actually following through with it. Any plans for Baja or similar races where the power can actually be utilized? The people want more updates!

Hi guys,

Sorry for the absence, but I come with more updates and photos. But to answer the question about using it in other races, yes, it will be used quite a lot without the swinarm extensions... we have very big plans for this bike.

But we took the frame off for one last time before the testing phase to finish some welding, build the neck reinforcement, and finish the peg mounts. So far done with the frame welding and the neck, pegs are next before we put the motor back in.

Suspension is being decided on where it's going soon, and the airbox and battery tray are being worked on while I have the frame.

I'm curious too. Great craftsmanship on the tube bending and welding. Would love to see pics on this if it was completed.
