What the fuck is he thinking?
Dave? DocWeedon? You guys hear anything?

Seems like a foolish thing to do RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEASON. Especially considering he's doing fairly well for himself.

AMA Supercross rider Matt Boni, who currently sits 16th in points, just sent us an e-mail informing us that he and the Butler Brothers MX team have parted ways:

"After much thought and deliberation in recent weeks I have decided to relinquish myself from the Butler Brothers MX team," wrote Boni. "Both BBMX and myself have had great success over the past years, but I feel as though I have reached my potential with the team. I truly appreciate all the support both the team and the sponsors have given me over the last year and a half. At this time I feel it is best for both parties involved if we went our separate ways."

Rumors have it that Matt Boni may be joining the the Hart & Huntington Honda team. Stay tuned to Racer X Online as this story develops.

He probably already has a deal in line with Hart and Hunington. He will still be on a Honda so it isn't that big of a deal.

Better bikes and tons of pussy in the pits.

It's a no brainer.

Its not like either of those teams bikes have any super trick factory parts on them. They are just aftermarket bikes with a little extra care and time put into them. I would think he could adjust pretty easy.

Wonder if his mechanic JJ Marsh is going with him? Being a former mechanic I know first hand that mechanics get the shaft on team changes.

I don't see how those bikes can be any better or worse. Honda's with aftermarket parts with $$$$ = the same bikes.

I'd put money on job security and a pay increase. Rumor is BBMX will not have a 450 rider next year and surely that's where Boni wants to stay. I imagine H&H offered him a substancial pay increase and a multi-year deal. He is the best thing going in the 450 class that could be had at the moment and Hart wants his bikes out there. Add to that he'll basically be on the same bike why the he'll not? Who would be stupid enough to say no?

I believe at Houston H & H was using Independent Suspension. I don’t know much about them and how much experience they have in Supercross at this level.

I agree Shawn. If someone was going to be super critical of the press release, I would say this statement wasn't necessary:

"but I feel as though I have reached my potential with the team"

I guess it isn't that bad though.

As long as his results don't go down hill at H & H.

Sounds like he needs a manager to help with things like this. That statement could come back to haunt him and his new team.

I would be surprised if he was even being paid any salary at all by BBMX.

Though the team switch is a lateral move at best, if you were offered to do the same job for free, or to be paid, you know what you would pick.

I would think if you can finish 12th or 13th in the 450 class a few times the bike probably isn't the problem and why mess up a good thing mid season. If it was a jump to a factory, that would be different but with all the rumored problems with the H&H bikes, doesn't seem like a smart move. There was a full shouting match going on in the HH pits at atlanta between the riders and mechanics about the suspension on the bikes being shit. H&H probably threw some money his way and instead of being patient and concentrating on the rest of the season they jumped at the cash.

Hard to understand why he would change mid season....There must be more to it than is hitting the press. Which makes it even harder to pass judgement.

As far as Marsh goes. I had heard he was looking for work a few weeks ago.

Marsh just told me that he can't go with him. That sucks.

Said he reached full potential with the team.

That's code for
1.the bikes are beat
2.he doesn't have enough support on his practice stuff.
3. someone not getting paid.

Normally it's all 3 but take your pick.

Just so people know, if you thought Alan Brown did a good job with the Honda's
(And he did excellent) for MotoXXX than you shouldn't be blaming the H&H bikes for performance.

The mechanic? does not get to go with the rider... It would seem like that would be the riders choice.

I think anyone with a brain knows that Alan is as good as it gets when it comes to motor work. Suspension on the other had, who knows.

Suspension is what I would be most concerned with if I were a rider or a manager with the team. Like I said, I know nothing about "Independent Suspension". They might be the best kept secret in the pits but then again, they may not be.

Yup . I agree, Suspension would be a top priority if I was in charge too.
