How to remove broken chain adjuster bolt?

Got a 07 CR125 project bike I'm doing and when removing the old chain adjuster bolts I soaked them with PB blaster and tried removing them. One came out, the other not so much. Broke off in there. Any tips on getting her out?

Try a normal bolt extractor. Maybe heat the swingarm to loosen around the bolt and deactivate loctite if for some reason theres some there.

Or try welding a smaller bolt to it and use that to turn it.

Another thing to try is take a tiny wheel and cut a flathead grove into it. Use one of those impact screwdrivers to loosen it up without stripping it.

Worst case scenario youll have to drill it out and put a thread insert in there.

Reverse drill bits work well sometimes. And look up a screw extractor. You can get either at a hardware store or auto parts store.

The path of least resistance can be winding it in to swingarm. There may only be 10mm of stud going in, coming out there may be 20 or 30mm of possibly rusty stud with enough stiction to snap it already. It's an annoyance having something loose inside the swingarm yet it can make the job a lot more straight forward, and there may be another opening to fish it out.

Looks like I am going to get a longer drill bit, drill the tiny hole in the bolt a bit deeper and get an extractor. Going to soak it some more and heat up the area around the outside of the bolt. Wish me luck! Lol

Good luck! I can't stand dealing with stripped/ broken bolts! I can't stand knowing I have compromised threads on my bike...lol

Soak it with Kroil or Fluid Film. Anything else is a waste of time. you will have to work it back and forth very slowly with some heat. At this point patience is your best tool to get that stud out.

How can I work it back and forth if it is broken flush with the outlet hole?

Drilled a tiny pilot hole on the underside of the swingarm to spray penatrating oil at the other side of the bolt and water came pouring out! It's unbelievable how some people take care(or lack there of) these bikes!

I had to drill it out when it happened for me, make sure you get it right so you don't damage the threads if you decide to go that way

I usually take a nut and weld thru the hole to the bolt. Then remove it while it is hot. There are actually some specialty rods for that purpose but I have good luck with just my mig also.

Yes an edm is the only way to go, lots of machine shops have them and the charge is usually less than $50 well worth the $

Electric Discharge Machine.
It uses electricity thru an electrode to remove material. Wire and Graphite are the most common machines.
