Bell's Sean Estes strikes a pose with James Stewart's Moto 8.
MXA: Can you tell us a little about James' helmet?
Sean: It's a production Bell Moto 8, but he's using some prototype Moto 9 cheek pads that we're still developing. We've been testing the foam that we use on our Bell Star road helmet and the biggest difference is that it has a stiffer density. We probably won't see a Moto 9 until 2010. Chris Wood from Airtrix did the paint with a really cool chrome base layer. Right now we're also working on a James Stewart signature line of helmets. We have about ten different artists - from sub-cult to mainstream - that are working on various styles and James will choose the one he likes.
MXA Mid Week Report
Just sayin'
I thought cycle worlds bitch about Arai helmets was that the EPS was too stiff and transfered too much energy to the rider's head.

I am going to go with a Gold Football helmet. I will be the fashion plate of the track. Are those Spy's he is wearing?
These different conditions requires different shell and EPS designs. Arai goes so far as to use softer EPS for their smaller helmets because they know that lighter riders hit the ground with less force. Stiffer foam isn't generally desirable for offroad helmets.
It's apples and oranges, but it appears as though Bell is looking for a way to save money by producing one type of EPS foam.
doood broooo is one of those noobs that knows what he's talking about. That should put a bunch of the stiffer vs. softer comments to rest.
