Can you just unhook the oil injection and run premix? I remember doing this to several 50's in the late 70's.
My Zuma is blowing crazy blue smoke and is hard to start.

Any suggestions on testing the injection system?

Seems like I remember that it is a better trade off.

Careful! On some oil injected motors, the oil travels through the main bearings to lubricate the big end of the rod bearing in addition to coming in through the intake. If you remove the oil injection system, the bottom end will not get this lubrication through the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber.

Also, I know the oil injection on a couple bikes I have mixes the oil/gas ratio differently at different RPMs / at different throttle positions..

Mechanically, oil injection systems are VERY simple and very rarely fail. So there's really no need to take them off "for peace of mind" in the first place. As the cable from the throttle stretches, they can use adjusting. But it's very easy. Google the year of your Zuma and also type "manual .pdf" and I'll be you find a free service manual explaining the oil injection system on your bike

My .02cents anyways...

F150, you are right.....I remember running into an issue like this when my dad started premixing my 1971 Kawasaki g5 100.

For anyone still racing that g5 100...well, ok, probably not to many....

They routinely do it on the older 2t street bikes(RD350,etc). There seems to be a lot of people who don't trust the old pumps!

Thanks so much.

It's a 50cc - with a 70cc cylinder and head.

It's my favorite MC of all time. (Except for the 1st 400- 426? four stroke. That bike was amazing......275 lbs, but I loved riding it.)

There is so much knowledge on this site. Thank you all for the input.
