Well with everybody's input I think I'm going to go with new unless I can find a super low hour lightly used late model. Thank you all for the input

What do you like about the shock vs the stock one? Isn't that kit shock using a 16mm shaft?

I haven't ridden this bike yet. Bought it,tore it apart and have been putting parts in it for a while. Plan on riding it in a few weeks.
I've had kit suspension on most of my bikes since 09 though. For me it's a safety purchase. When set up correctly it's generally plusher and more progressive than stock components. Also it is more consistent in high load situations. Like dropping into massive g outs at speed or big whoops.
Where do you get your kit stuff anyway. How does someone go about buying it.
Other than the used ones you see spring up from time to time

I have only bought used. I've used eBay a few times with good results. This set I bought off a member of vital. It's in very good condition was a good price and was a great buying experience. You just have to keep an eye out. Or pay 7 grand for new stuff. You would get in touch with technical touch if you want new kyb kit suspension.

I bought a 2006 YZ 250 in 2010... it was BEAT! It was really fun to rebuild but it was just about as expensive as buying a new bike in the end. And some of the stuff (like the messed up drain plug, fork tubes, lower frame cradle, swingarm) can't just be buffed out.

I bought a new YZ 250 the next time I got the two-stroke bug.

Resell on the new bike will be much better too.
