Jimmy D - Where to in '18?

I know this is WAY premature but where is everyone thinking Jimmy D ends up in 2018...if I'm not mistaken, he's already said he will not be coming back to Geico in '18. He's showed enough speed this year to get the attention of another top tier team I'd think...what about TLD?...would Mitch take a flyer on him at PC?

I think Jimmy is exactly who he has shown himself to be which is a guy with excellent sprint speed but he can't put it all together in the main event. He also has had sub par results outdoors (and that is putting it nicely). At his age, I think he's topped out. I don't think there is any upside to him. I would be surprised to see him with a first or even second tier ride next season.

No room at Star or TLD and his outdoor Results haven't warranted a full-time ride...

Probably his best bet is try to stay on SX-only with Geico and try to get on the bike outdoors if someone is hurt.

Given that Jimmy has a new way of going about racing, which is working harder, dieting, and training with a more serious attitude. I think he may be able to crack the top 10 outdoors this year if he can get on a bike.

he has shown speed, but he seems maxed out already. if he was winning or fighting for heats at least and then fading in mains..., (if i was a team manager) i would look at him as a SX only contract at most, but i dont see him getting on an A team. maybe a B team like 5150 or something?

Granted this is the internet but that all seems a little rough for Jimmy D. I don't think he's ever been able to do a full year of SX and MX on the same team with the exception of running his own full privateer program. Don't forget the first year he got to go outdoors with Gieco was the same year he destroyed his elbow in SX and then had to play catch up late in the outdoor series. I also believe last year which was his second chance with the team and he was coming back from arm pump surgery. Maybe he wont light the world on fire outdoors but I think people on here underestimate how hard it is when you can't put in a full year or more consistently with one team. I mean shit, so many people get 2 year rides off of potential that never materializes. Let's not forget who Gieco's best/most consistent rider in 2016 has been...

Being I'm from the same town as him I've been a huge Jimmy D fan since day 1. He's really surprised me with his speed and starts this year and I'm sure someone will give him a shot next year on a 250 or maybe even 450. Would be really cool if he got a podium this season.

that's probably his biggest downfall. if he could run 5-10 place outdoors there wouldn't be much of a issue. maybe that's better though because outdoors doesn't pay for beans

I'm a huge JimmyD fan from Mass, but find much truth in this post. Granted he's elevated his training program, and rededicated himself to the sport, but it may be a case of too little, too late. A few podiums this year would have been nice, but even with the surgery and the new program, his results haven't improved dramatically.

All I did is state why he isn't being considered that heavily for a full-time ride as of yet. I know Jimmy has a good following, he's a good guy and been very nice anytime I've briefly chatted with him. I'm not doing any bashing, just saying why he's been passed over. There's a lot of talent available, a lot of teams have their spots full or have their eyes on certain guys and Jimmy hasn't been brought up when I've asked about those spots. But, with Suzuki hopefully expanding their 250F program...that will hopefully open up enough spots to either move someone there and open a spot at a different team or that team. I hope he gets a full-time shot.

Hes more capable than his results show. He needs to figure out why he fades in the main and if its training he needs to step it up although I know he trains very hard. Could be arm pump im not sure. Either way at his age he needs to get more consistent, everyone knows the raw speed he has. Im going to be watching from a distance as a fellow mass resident Im a fan of him and hopefully he gets it figured out.

I don't see why teams wouldn't take a look at him for a second or third spot. He's well liked, gets good starts, can run up and front and gets good TV time at most of the races. Even if it is a supercros only deal, I feel like he is a solid candidate for a decent ride.

he probably has the speed to run up front, but it might be an inssue of not being used to running that pace for a full race.

he is getting good starts and at least running up front.

He needs to pick up something for the summer. Maybe canada or wait till JGR breaks another rider

Is he currently Geico's best finisher? With Craig and Martin not having great seasons?
He rode well in the Canadian outdoors while he was healthy i thought?

The lack of results in outdoors last year has to be taken with a grain of salt. He was fresh off of arm pump surgery and had only spent a couple of weeks on the bike at best. Admittedly he said he was still not 100% then. If he had been able to turn a few of these 4th's into podiums this SX season it would be a totally different story IMO and he would be locked in somewhere already. But when you wait til a few years into your pro career to get serious, this is the boat you put yourself in.
