This thread reminded me of my 2000 YZ426 with the manual decompression lever. Hated that damn thing.

The new bikes start very easy in comparison.

If they didn't fire in 2-3 kicks hot or cold you were doing it wrong.... kick slowly until against compression, pull the de-comp lever and take the kickstart just past compression, release de-comp and let kickstart return to top of stroke, no throttle and kick...

I also had a 2000 YZ426 and had a starting ritual that would work about 85% or 90% of the time. There were times, though, that starting that thing took more out of me than racing. That little decompression fly-weight on Honda's camshaft (which was genius) made a HUGE difference!

I had the 2000 426 also when they first came out. If you didn't find top dead center with piston before kicking, you were screwed! Once you figured that little trick out it was simple. Now trying it on a hot summer day in the middle of a moto, after wrecking, and tired, different story lol.
