For you guys in the know, how often do they rebuild the race engines in the pro class bikes? Is it a new engine for every race?

I am not in the know but I would have to think that would be an every race deal.

For SX, if the engines don't have any "weak" parts like a certain gear in the trans or something like that... they don't touch them the whole season in the lites class.

I believe they go through the entire engine every race.

Really?

And weak as in the Suzuki 2nd and 3rd gear dogs?

While not SX I was in with the several top 250F supermoto riders and as a minimum they went threw the top ends. Piston/rings/ Valves & clutch every race and crank every other. Trans as needed.

Top HP built to the hilt 250f's have short fuses.

Buddy of mine was involved with the OTSFF Suzuki Canada team and for outdoors the 450's got a new topend every 2 races and complete engine every 4.
I am guessing it depends on budget.

For the factory teams and most of the satalite teams the engines are on a rotation. Each race bike has the motor in the chasis and a spare in the rig. After the race the motor used that night is pulled and sent back to the race shop. The motor in the rig, if not used is next in line and another motor for the race shop is sent out for the next weekend as the back up. So most factory bikes have a 3 motor rotation.

This is fairly typical for most of the major teams.

I was just going to ask this. If I had to guess, they must Dyno the engines after rebuilds and run them in? so they are ready to go?

Every race. Engine completely disassembled, cleaned, some parts replaced, and reassembled.
