So besides the obvious of the bike being louder is there any other negatives (performance...) to shortening the muffler on a 4 stroke? I have a 2016.5 KTM 450 and can't stand how far the muffler sticks out so was thinking of taking off 2 inches.

Thanks. I didn't think it would have any other issues other than noise but wanted to check before cutting it up.

You really will not even notice the noise as you will be speeding away from it on the track, and it is really not much.

More just noise in general, didn't want it to be obnoxious. Now to cut a brand new FMF muffler.

I was told before if you take 3 inches off it would help bottom end but I didn't have the guts to cut ours up

Ya I don't think there is enough room to take off that much without doing some serious modifications. Just trying to keep it simple, so max out the most I can take out back to the rear hanger bracket. 2"-3" at most, make it so just the carbon end cap is sticking out past the number plate.

Here's my GasGas with 2.5" cut from the FMF can. We ran it on the Dyno with the standard length FMF can and the shortened can was quite a bit better right off idle. I have the chart somewhere but it's definitely a decent mod for a quicker hit. I didn't notice that it was any louder over than the standard length can.

Yes, it is. I work on it quite a bit because you certainly know that he doesn't :-)

I get the FMF can decals from AOMC. They have many different styles of FMF can decals in stock so you could change up the look quite a bit if you wanted too.

I've recently done this as well. I used a stock husky exhaust, removed the backfire screen, and put it in a large bandsaw. Cut it slowly and be sure to mark the bolt holes BEFORE cutting. Use a little grill paint to touch up the cut edge and reinstall. Louder, and ever so slightly better off the bottom. Plus, the black looks way better. On austrian 350's you'll want to cut 1.25 inches.

Seems like one photo at a time now on the new update.

I also used the cricut to cut some gasgas logos that go on the husqvarna cover up section.

Also wondering how you cut the Ti can. Looking to do the same with a Ti Akra muffler.

I have an old muffler that is pretty trashed and this post gave me some inspiration to fix it up. Decided to shorten it 2” with a cutoff wheel
