Need some suggestions about getting a couple more HP out of my 2017 Yamaha YZ250f, preferably without any motor work. Love the power of the bike stock, but another four HP or so would be my goal. Currently stock except for a Dr. D slip on exhaust. Have heard that VP MR12 race gas plus a Vortex ignition could produce the HP I'm looking for, but would like some opinions or suggestions. Have an older YZ250f for practice, so this one would only be used on race day....race gas cost would therefore be manageable.

Might try the GYTR air boot and Twin Air powerflow air filter kit. The air boot might just be a 450 air boot but I have seen it called that and an actual GYTR part so I am not sure which is correct. Several motor builders use that air boot because of better or more airflow I think.

These two parts alone won't get you up to where you want but in combination with the race gas and Vortex CDI box might get you there. I would consider buying the pipe too to go with the muffler.

That combo is not gonna get you 4 hp. I run MR12 & a Vortex on my CRF250R. I'd say it's worth 1 - 1.25 hp IMO.

Thanks for the responses. Is it necessary to drain MR12 from the tank after each race day?

I use vp4.4 in our bike and when we are done I drain out vp and put in non ethanol gas in tank so fuel pump doesn't dry out

While we are on the subject, what is the cheapest "race gas" for 4 strokes? Been thinking about running better fuel and i have heard higher octane isn't really the best route.

VP T4 is the cheaper fuel that is better than pump.

Thanks, any thoughts on if it is good/bad to mix 50/50 with pump?

Call Twisted Development and ask them about a Vortex with their maps. They also have a dual injector kit that will give you more HP. It's all plug and play.

No it's not. It's not like the old U4 that you had to.

Instead of coasting 100' prior to entrance of corner, and waiting until you've rolled out of the corner 100' before you get on the gas, I'm certain you'll have all the gains you need Whistling (JK...) Evil

How's the layout since the flood? I'm up in Washington at the moment, so haven't gotten to ride any of the REP tracks since the flooding

I would think you could get your stock ECU remapped as opposed to buying a Vortex , maybe look into VP Pro 6 as it is oxygenated and produces good HP gains when properly mapped.

PC has exceptional traction right now. Haven't been to Riverfront since the flood and haven't heard much. The flood actually brought in a bunch of sand to E St. and to a lesser extent MMX. Today at E St. it was deep, deep sand on 90% of the track. Track was tight probably because the low lying areas might have still been wet, so deep sand combined with a relatively tight track made it tough (for me) to stay on top of the sand. I think when Zeb can open up the track a bit more it's gonna be super sweet....just like the E St. of the 70's and 80's....sandy and rough as hell
.
