Anatomy of a crash - Roczen's A2 Season Ender

some of you analyze this way more than the guy who actually crashed.

On an unrelated note, I know a guy who broke both arms falling out of a tree. He swears he can still wipe his own butt. I don't believe the dirty ass bastard.

You can bet your ass that Honda is analyzing this frame by frame. Their multi-million dollar rider just got hurt. So yeah.

Video is 30 fps. This strikes me as a lot less granular than that.

Probably have accountants analyzing ROI harder than anyone analyzing a dirtbike crash.

If you look across the face of that jump you can clearly see it was naturally getting cupped out from the right to left.

There were pretty much two lines, extreme left, you could triple from. KR either jumped a smidge too far in, chose the line that had just given away or a combination of bith

I've done the same thing 2 dozen times I bet in the 35 yrs I raced and knew exactly what happened each time.

Probably crashed 50 percent of the ways you can crash before ken was born, worked on the other 50 but came up tad short. Still,i knew what happened ever damn time,

He does too.

Jesus Christ, you'd think we're analyzing a space shuttle explosion here. He came into the section too fast, picked a line which was cupped out mid-way up the face and when the bike released its energy it chucked him over the bars. This shit's been happening at MX tracks worldwide since the 1950's. He fucked up and paid the price, end of story.
This!

Classic Honda design flaw. My 68' c50 used to do the same damn thing, and don't get me started about how twitchy my Honda mower gets in the rough stuff......check out any Ronnie Mac video for further proof....

why are you over analyzing this? I mean is it going to change the outcome once you've got the answer? He crashed because he crashed, period. I am sure physics can give an definite explanation, given every single variable. But you can't possibly know all the exact variables so it's basically all speculation at this point.
Also for those who are saying that the shock/forks are fully compressed when he's taking off, blah blah blah... That's how every single dirtbike looks like when preloading a jump that is fairly steep.
its the Vital way of some to go over the same thing again, again then again ...and just for shits once again Smile

This lady knows all too well what Roczen was feeling. Same physics - different rider, different bike, different speeds, but same physics. She's probably had more views than Kenny too - so she does really know what it feels like.

https://youtu.be/dyLz2cXn49s

The only way for her to avoid disaester was to be accelerating through that "bump" of a jump and pulling up on the bars.....or maybe maybe a major deceleration to a controllable speed.

With the cupped out jump that Ken was hitting at the equivalent of 100MPH - he didn't have any time to decelerate and he didn't have any time for acceleration since he over jumped into it.

There's not much the suspension could have done for Ken. He came into that jump real "hot"...i.e. fast, and didn't have the time necessary to accelerate to get the bike's attitude where it needed to be. AND THEN like a catapult she bucked him off like a Denver Bronco.

NOW imagine if you will, she was right behind Ken Roczen and hit the jump exactly the same as Ken Roczen, and basically, just after Ken smashed into the face of that jump snapping his arm, she landed on him. There would be no more Ken Roczen.

NOW imagine if you will, she was just in front of Ken Roczen. And she hit that jump exactly the same as Ken did, and Ken landed on this lady. WE WOULD STILL HAVE US A SUPERCROSS SEASON!

I'm wishing Ken Roczen all the best and will miss him dearly this year.
